Overview: Volvo - The Game, the free game that surpasses all expectations

The fresh and exiting Volvo S60 Concept headlines the car line up and will be accompanied by several well known Volvo race cars. The players will be able to hammer this variety of Volvo cars around two highly detailed and realistic tracks.

The racing game announced in April by Volvo Cars and game development company SimBin can be played with five racing legends in addition to the new Volvo S60 Concept. They are Volvo models that many people will remember from the STCC and BTCC racing series.

Players will be able to choose between the Volvo C30 which is competing in this year’s STCC , the STCC Volvo S60 that participated a few years ago, the Volvo S40 that participated with notable success in the BTCC (the British Touring Car Championship) the Volvo 850, the estate car that became a legend in the BTCC, and finally a true racing classic, the iconic Volvo 240 Turbo Group A.

There is a choice of two tracks: Gothenburg Eco Drive Arena in Göteborg, Sweden, and Chayaka outside Kiev in the Ukraine. Volvo – The Game is the only virtual racing game in the world to include this Ukrainian track.

The game offers a choice of skill levels: “novice with all the driver assistance technology activated such as ABS brakes, “semi-pro”, and finally “pro” where there is no assistance

Overview: AfterShocked! is a full-featured post-apocalyptic comedy adventure game in the vein of Monkey Island and other classic adventure titles. Features include hand-drawn 16-bit color graphics, an original musical score, dozens of characters to interact with, plenty of scenes to visit, lots of puzzles to solve, and a completely warped sense of humor.

The game takes place mainly in a small town, Scabsboro, outside of a big city, Utopaville, in the heart of America. One day, large missiles from an unknown source rain down all over the world, killing billions. The only places left in America are Scabsboro and Utopaville, which, in a stroke of luck, missed being hit. Unfortunately, a large wall around Utopaville is soon raised, preventing Scabsboro's residents from getting in and enjoying the same standard of living. But city officials aren't heartless jackasses, they have a reason for building the wall: zombies. Apparently, Scabsboro was close enough to incoming blasts that anyone who happened to be outside for the "fireworks" got their skin ripped off. Zombie is more of a slang term, as they are not actually dead, just disgusting. Scabsboro's "norm" residents aren't as afraid of zombies as the city dwellers are, but they still hate them for being, as one resident puts it "mutant eyesores who are probably jerks too... and they smell funny." But are the zombies really as bad as all that? And while the norm-zombie conflict is going on, there's evil brewing from across the world. An eccentric villain from whom, unbeknownst to anyone, the missiles originally came, plots to seek out and destroy any remnants of civilization that might remain. Why? Because he's a jackass. You play as Jimmy, a former high school student who resides in town and spends his days sitting around the house with his two roommates. One day, a crazy old professor offers him a once in a lifetime opportunity to help save the world, and that's where the story begins...

Numpty Physics v0.2

Overview: Numpty Physics is a drawing puzzle game.

Harness gravity with your crayon and set about creating blocks, ramps, levers, pulleys and whatever else you fancy to get the little red thing to the little yellow thing.

Numpty Physics is a drawing puzzle game in the spirit (and style?) of Crayon Physics using the same excellent Box2D engine. Note though that I've not actually played CP so the experience may be very different. Numpty Physics includes a built-in editor so that you may build (and submit) your own levels.

Numpty Physics is released under the GPL.

Lego Digital Designer (LDD) is the official Lego CAD-like program for Windows and Mac. For many this smart toy will be a clear first choice. The graphics and controls are excellent. If you're accustomed to Google Earth, then you'll probably soon feel at home navigating in 3D on the virtual grid, moving building blocks and turning them through 90 degrees.

A child-friendly user manual is provided, and there’s also a series of brief video tutorials on the LDD site to help you get started. The company does try to attract you towards their product range. But it's easy enough (for an adult at least!) to go one's own way.

In 'Build mode', there are lots of tool options and other stuff to explore. You can save your new Lego constructions as you go. It's also fun to take prebuilt models to bits, and of course you can also reconstruct them or dream up your own creations with Mindstorms components. However, even if you own a physical Mindstorms set, scope for serious design is limited by LDDs inability to rotate pieces through any angle.

Switch to 'View mode' to see your constructions against several different backgrounds (with sound effects), such as the sea or outer space. You can get the whole construction to explode in a flash... and then gently drift back together again. You can also take screenshots on the fly. There's now also the possibility to upload and share your LDD creations over the Internet, though you have to comply with certain brick choice restrictions (for example, my illustrated attempt didn't pass the test).

It's up to you to mix the build and thrill. For some children, this free toy might be a fun first step towards the world of creative 3D computer graphics and CAD.

BlockCAD v3.18
Requirements: Win 95/98/NT/XP/2000
Overview: BlockCAD is a freeware program for building virtual models with Lego-like bricks.

You can save your models, or save pictures of them (.bmp, .jpg), even reuse a complete model as a part in another model.

Everything can be controlled with the mouse, but it's also possible to use the keyboard for most of the commands, making 'routine building' more effective, and there is a minimum of text involved, to make it easier for kids,

BlockCAD is not a full CAD program, the pieces can only be placed 'studs up', and rotated in steps of 90 degrees. It is impossible to draw pieces that are partly inside other parts, which excludes almost all of the Lego Technic line, but there's still a lot of fun to be had with it.

BlockCAD is freeware, but if you really like the program, I would be happy if you send me a piece of (real) Lego, and maybe a postcard from your home town. My mail adress can be found in the About... box in the program.

BlockCAD was started in the summer of 1998, when I saw a demo of a commercial brick building program (whose name escapes me for the moment), and I thought: "I can do that too!". So I did.

The Lego 'purists' should be wary, because I am not strictly following the Lego look, just doing something for fun. Some parts look like Lego, some are from the Swedish clone, Byggis, and some are pure fantasy.

Liquid War is a unique multiplayer wargame. Its rules are truely original and have been invented by Thomas Colcombet. You control an army of liquid and have to try and eat your opponents. A single player mode is available, but the game is definitely designed to be multiplayer, and has network support.
Most Original Linux Game
The award Liquid War received from The Linux Game Tome in 2002, for being the "Most Original Linux Game".

It has been ranked "most original Linux Game" by the Linux Game Tome in 2002. It and has also been nominated in the games category at the internationnal free software contest "Les trophées du libre" in 2003. And I was pleased to hear that Liquid War has been distributed on CD-ROM by a fair number of magazines (essentially in Germany).

Liquid War is available for DOS, Windows, GNU/Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, and uses Allegro. It is distributed as free software (free speech, not beer), under the terms of the GNU General Public License ( GPL ).

Liquid War comes with a rather complete documentation , so take the time to read it if you encounter problems with the game. There's also a mailing list if you have questions, suggestions or remarks about the game. And BTW, for programmers and curious guys who wish to understand how Liquid War works, technical information is also available. Finally, Liquid War uses a basic meta-server system which keeps an online list of available internet games .

Bible Quiz v2.4

Overview: Multi player Bible Quiz

Started out as a "something to do project" when learning HTML. Could never figure out a way to keep score with HTML, so rewrote it in Visual Basic 6.0.

Features
Over 1000 questions, multiple choice answers in random order. Choice of New Testament or Old Testament question at any time. Can play by yourself or with up to 6 players competitively. Can get a "hint" at any time or "read the verse" if desired.

Can't "read the verse" to find the answer though. Must answer the question first. Once you have "read the verse" goes to next question.

Hacker 3: Cyber Warefare v3.1
Requirements: Windows 98/2000/XP/Vista/Win7
Overview: You have just been employed by an underground organization called [x]-K Corp. They have assigned you 12 hacking missions, which you must complete without getting caught.

You have 8 tools/ commands to help you accomplish this, including DNS lookup, PING, NMAP, and TELNET. Hack into the server by looking up the IP address, searching for open ports, then using TELNET to connect. Log in as 'root' and use John the Ripper to find the password. Once you get in, you must find, delete, or copy any files you need to complete your mission. Before leaving, you must all traces that you were there. You must do this fast, because if you take too long they will trace your IP and you will fail the mission!

Just don't expect to be playing this game for too long, because it will get boring fairly fast. All the servers are the same, so you end up doing almost the exact same thing over and over. But other than that, the game is pretty cool and creative. So if you've ever gotten the urge to hack but didn't want to risk going to jail, this is the game for you.

Watching the markets is your key to success in buying low and selling high. All this globe-trotting is not without its dangers, however, airport security has a watchful eye open drug dealers, and unless you take precautions you might find yourself staring at the flashes from their guns.

Drug Lord 2 also introduces global shipping, where you can send drugs from one city to another and meet up with them later, avoiding any airport hassles. In each city you also have a drug vault where you can store goods and come back for them later.
