I have to say, I am just so very disappointed.

It appears we have a new foreign breed of lister, those that upload to Filesonic every known format of ebook. If this was for the book enthusiasts benefit I would applaud this however, alas, it is not.

We are now aware that the uploader is financially rewarded for downloads from their links, hence the Filesonic link without mirrors. Apparently the uploader gets additional financial gain for the size of the download, hence the copious number of unwanted formats.

How sad that these….. well whoever, whatever they want to call themselves have decided to use this forum for financial gain. How sad that they download material from other sites and relist it here under the guise of sharing their good fortune. I can think of a number of adjectives for such individuals, but good manners prevents me from elaborating further.

I wish to thank those individuals (moderators and regular listers) who choose not to use, frustrate or leach of the members in such a manner.

I'm not really fond of Filesonic myself but it was always like this ... one of the hosters is the site of the moment - mostly because they pay and then a lot of people try to make some money out of it.

But what is really the harm for you as a dl'er? OK, I also get annoyed if I don't get what I wanted but if it's more than you wanted you can always delete the rest. It's only bandwith ...

For the last few weeks we have observed with concern how more and more of our users complain about this issue of Filesonic and request mirrors, so in response to those requests and complaints we have taken the necessary actions, as indicated here: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=221908

The bulk format problem for those with less bandwidth is a bit more complicated to solve, but hopefully, having to post mirrors from other sites will also take care of that

We want to thank all those faithful users who pmd us with their input for their contribution in making mobilism the best forum for ebooks.... and hope we can continue to count on you to make it even better!

To Mods, Many thanks for sorting the issue, Filesonic is an issue for those that are not a member or hold their membership elsewhere, I bet those with complaints are sighing a collective relief.

It is really Bandwidth and Time, for those with plenty of both, of course this would not be an issue, it would be fantastic to be blessed with both. But isn't it wonderful that this site takes their members concerns on board, listens to what they have to say, and will act when they feel it is necessary.

Let me enlighten you !

1- Check the search button... 2 times : in the novel section & in the new release section
2- upload an image
3- find a summary
4- Write all the details about the ebook as it should be (Author's name, title, Series' name if necessary, formats & size of the files...)
5- Upload a file and provide a link
6- Provide a link to the related books if necessary

... and now, on top of that we have to provide a mirror as a rule ? ... just because some would like to download more and more books they'll never have time to read ?

The only thought this new rule inspires me is that it's quite easier to be a downloader than an uploader ... and that I will be a fool to continue to give so much of my time to an ungrateful bunch!

Hard to upload here? I would say exactly the same as in all the other sites where you upload books!

You're right about #6, though. And maybe that is one of the reasons why our site is the best: we facilitate things for our users by providing links to 'related books if necessary'.

Just one comment about the search: you make it sound real difficult, but if you use the 'Search' at the top left corner of your page, in Normal mode, you'll get all the results you need, regardless of where you are browsing at the moment.

Of course, other sites don't care so much about double posts.... or they have lost that battle. In one of them (always speaking about sites where you upload), I've seen a big announcement from the admins that reads: 'Use the stupid search!!!!'
Still, finding dozens of posts with the same book is quite normal there. I would call that spamming, and I'm grateful for the fact we don't allow it

But I'm digressing, back to mirrors: you started posting with mirrors, was it really so much more work then?

Just a thought on this, I'm not really sure how well it would work, but ...

How about limiting the number of FORMATS in a LINK to 2, possibly 3? That way, those with download bandwidth problems would possibly have an easier time of it.

Example:

Currently: uploader posts a release with one download link with ALL formats in it.
LINK = (.mobi, .epub, .Lit, PDF, HTML, .rtf, .txt, etc.)

mirrors:
LINK = (.mobi, .epub, .Lit, PDF, HTML, .rtf, .txt, etc.)

Revised way: uploader posts a release with multiple download links with different formats in each.
LINK 1 = (.mobi, .epub)
LINK 2 = (.Lit, PDF)
LINK 3 = (HTML, .rtf, .txt)

mirrors:
LINK 1 = (.mobi, .epub)
LINK 2 = (.Lit, PDF)
LINK 3 = (HTML, .rtf, .txt)

God love you It is very obvious to one and all from your posts, your responses and your links that you care, that you are here to share as are many of the other listers and moderators, always helpful, always a joy... and I for one thank you all.

There are others whose intent is rather obvious and I won't bash the subject to death... but you know, providing wupload as an alternative link says it all (gigles)

My stance has been, if I feel the post is outside the concept of sharing, I will not DL from their links, in that way I am refusing to pay them at all.

This is from memory (a very rusty memory) but they say that 98% of criminal law is written for 5% of the population. (figures may be a little out, but that is as I remember it) If anyone can correct this. Please do so as I would like to get it right, but the point is most people do the right thing naturally, others actions unfortunately reflect on all and therefore guidlines/rules are created that effect all, often adversely just to keep one or two from crossing the line.

PS if you are already a member of Filesonic, it is easier to download from there and most of the people that have been utilizing these links will, I feel, continue to do so while they remain a member. So really those listers that rely on this income, should not be affected, all they are doing now is providing those that were unable to DL an acceptable source.

Hi everyone...

I guess I'm a bit confused and as I'm considering starting to post ebooks for downloading, I want to make sure I understand the issues and frustrations.

I just posted my first ebook, and yes I used Filesonic. I have a premium membership (for a few more days anyway) but I don't see where I make any money anywhere for someone downloading my file. I've had memberships at various sites (rapidshare, megaupload, etc.,) and have never seen where I would make any money. Since I download other things here at Mobilism besides just ebooks, I'll often pay for a short-term premium membership from a site that seems to be the common one for downloading whatever apps/books what-have-you for the moment.

I'm also a bit confused about the number of formats in a file. Perhaps I don't understand enough about bandwidth. Would someone mind explaining why having multiple formats in a download is an issue...I honestly want to understand.

No matter what format I download, I have to go through a multi-step process to get any ebooks into the file format I need...which is .pdb (I used eReader on a WM 6.1 pda as it is the only app I can find that allows a person to create themes with images for a background and due to a medical condition, I create them to make it easier on my eyes to read...and I read more hours than I sleep, eat, heck, almost breath! ) I know about calibre and I am learning how to use it, but since it drives me nuts to have wordswithnospaces, editing that is either poor or hasn't been done, and all that, I clean the file up before I even begin to create the .pdb file. Some formats are much easier for me to convert to the format I need (.rtf or .html) in order to for me to then create the .pdb the way I want it for my reading app.

I am VERY thankful to everyone who goes to the effort to make ebooks available for download and saving me all the money it would cost to have to purchase them. I appreciate their time, any monies they've paid to belong to an uploading site, their willingness to share and/or find ebooks I and others are looking for (I know I've spent lots of time trying to find books with no luck but ask for them here and often times someone provides it!) I may grumble about lots of editing to do or having to find the best way to convert a PDF or other difficult format but I do it under my breath and count my blessings.

Please know that nothing I have said is directed to anyone who has posted here or anyone else in particular!!! I want to understand so that if and when I do my own posting to share what books I have I'll know the best way to provide for others needs/desires!

Some people are limited by their internet provider to some limit on the number/size of downloads they can make within a certain timeframe (as an example, purely off the top of my head, say 500 MB per week). So, if they (like you with the .pdb files) are only interested in one file type, finding a book that has Multiple file types and a large size (Example: "Favorite Book Title Here" - in .PDB, .mobi, .epub, .Lit, PDF, HTML, lrf, .rtf, .txt, Doc, etc., - with a file size of 8.91 MB), is not as preferable - considering their download limits - as say, finding that same book in only one or two file types and a much smaller file size (Example: "Favorite Book Title Here" - in .PDB & .mobi - with a file size of 1.67 MB).

Basically, the smaller the file size, the better for their download capacity. Otherwise they have to waste part of their allotted download space (bandwidth) to download the much larger file, select what they want to keep and delete the rest. And then they are left with less download capacity to download other books they may also want.

For the information concerning Filesonic, when you log into Filesonic, go to my account / affiliate (an orange button). You will find all the information you are looking for on that page. Wupload is similar, however for a free visitor the wait time is longer.

Bodica60 has already answered much of your question in that Bandwidth is the name given to your internet mb allowance, to simplify if I have an internet plan of 3gb’s per month my allocation would be 3gbs bandwidth, some people have unlimited therefore unlimited bandwidth.

If you live in a rural location, your only option is Satelite, this is a very expensive type of bandwidth and please consider that an average person will use 50 to 100 mbs simply surfing a couple of sites and downloading email in a few hours. Not to mention computer updates etc… so the allocation for actual downloads thins dramatically. For people under these restrictions downloading large files is not just difficult, rather, at times, out of the question. Satalite has constant breaks and therefore you are often forced to try downloading large files three or four times, before you have a successful download, using up much more than anticipated of that valuable bandwidth.

However this is only one reason, another is there are many who live in areas with outdated exchanges where dial up is the only access to internet, broken downloads are common and the time factor is also a large consideration. It can take half an hour from the time you locate the download that you are seeking, initiate download, to recipt of the download. Large file formats take considerably longer.

Then there are those that have a large bandwidth allocation and speedy internet, but still have the time factor issues.

The majority are cognizant of this fact and will post a mobi/epub or mobi/lit and some add a pdf. Once you have a free flow format, it is easy to transpose to any required format, many people take a perfectly well formatted book and will stylize it to their preferred layout anyway.

It is obvious that there are those that are not interested in the concept of sharing, rather, they are here strictly for personal reasons… once again I will not go further into this as we read, we have intelligence, we can work it out…

I think if you follow the format of people such as the moderators, Bohica60, Valie and many many other regular listers, you cannot go to far wrong 

Huge files with unwanted content are a problem. Especially for mobile users. This site was founded as a site for mobile phone users, hence a lot of users download the files with their mobile phone (with their browser or the mobilismApp). Prior having a flatrate i had a download limit of 30 MB... Usually an eBook has a size of maybe 0.4 MB. So it was no problem to download several ebooks when i was on the go. But... finally people started to blow up their files with additional formats or unwanted files. Thats ok, as long as it doesn't get out of hand. And this starts to happen more and more. The archives reach 5-10 MB... compared to earlier times, and with my old data plan, i would be able to download maybe 5 files... compared to 70 files...

I download everything on my laptop, so I have not issues with an "extra" content. I have no qualms about sifting through .lit, .pdf., or any others to get what I need. It would be one thing if I were paying for the book, but I'm not. If a poster wants to put a few extra formats in there to pad their file size, go for it.

The thing I hate is Filesonic because of the viruses it keeps giving me. I wish people would stop using this site. Now I never download from Filesonic. I wait until someone posts (either here or on another board) the file I want on a safer file sharing site (like megaupload).

I truly do appreciate all the work posters put into finding these books, and their willingness to share them.
