So, I was wondering: Why do some of the posts in the ebook section only have 1 or 2 mirrors? Is it really that hard to make more than one?

Does it matter? I have never needed to use a mirror. The first D/L link always works. Unless it is one of the closed sites, of course. But then the mirrors are also likely to be dead.

I use Mirrorcreator for my mirrors and there are always 5 or more choices.

For some reason it seems that you have more luck than I do :P

It nearly never works on the first try for me, I always end up having to Message the poster for a new link.

Maybe they are old links? With all these file hosts getting closed down or harassed (by you know who) there will be dead links in the older posts.

Mirrors are mandatory only since August 2011. Before that, it was up to the uploader to add them or not, and I'm sure you'll find most of the threads with Filesonic links had no mirrors, posters were not interested: they wanted each download to count.

Now we have at least two options, but it doesn't mean the rule was easily accepted by all posters equally, many of them do it because they have no choice. So maybe yes, maybe it's hard for some to upload to more than one host, what can we say but be grateful for those two?

Oh, I see. So people wanted download counts for their acconts. That makes so much more sense. Thanks :)

Also, when is it that the Filesharing site actually replied to the DMCA complaints quickly?

The problem with multi-mirror sites is that sometimes the page with the links get taken down

That problem also effects primary links. I nice PM to the original uploader will (9 times out of 10) get new links posted :D

Wouldn't it be easier to run your own host, delete on request, and reupload?

What do you mean? Like have our own site I.e. mesquite.com? I've already been threatened with a warning from one of the hosting sites I use so can you be more detailed?

(edit: the site link doesn't work so don't click it.)

One more time, remember Megaupload? How about Napster?

What we have here is deniability. Mobilism does not own any of the uploads, they're just a bulletin board. When one of the items is not in accordance with some laws, they take down the release, while doing nothing illegal at all.The file host sincerely does not know that you're uploading illegal files to their servers. When someone brings it to their attention, they quickly delete the file and warn the offender. Some of them warn you once, some of them twice, none of them will warn you more than three times. That's when you see the "Account has been deleted due to DMCA violations" banner when you click on a link.

If you owned your own file server and did your own posting and file hosting (like MegaUpload and Napster did) guess who is the G-Man gonna come after with sledge hammers?

You, that's right.

Napster was P2P though which would indicate no central severs for file hosting. :?

Your missing the point though of what Zack said. It doesn't matter if it was a p2p host the original owner got caught and arrested. P2P or file host site not withstanding if there is evidence of such activity you will get arrested and your site owned by the federal government.

No I got the point, I was just clarifying that MU and Napster were based on 2 different methods of file hosting.
