Overview: Kathryn Shay is a lifelong writer. At fifteen, she penned her first 'romance,' a short story about a female newspaper reporter in New York City and her fight to make a name for herself in a world of male journalists - and with one hardheaded editor in particular. Looking back, Kathryn says she should have known then that writing was in her future. But as so often happens, fate sent her detouring down another path.

Genre: Contemporary Romance

The Betrayal: Darcy Weston flees to her grandparents’ abandoned farm after her stepfather rapes her. There, she meets Jordan Mackenzie, a local boy, and the friendship of a lifetime begins. Jordan helps sustain Darcy with food and water, and his company, for months, but eventually her whereabouts are discovered. In subsequent years, the two young people try to stay in touch from their disparate worlds, but eventually they drift apart.

Flash forward twelve years. Jordan is an accomplished teacher and Darcy, an internationally famous, reclusive artist. They meet again when Jordan publishes a book that reveals secrets about Darcy's past. But they find themselves thrown together first over the scandal his book creates, then over a murder. Once again, they turn to each other for help and comfort as they deal with police investigations, a variety of suspects from each other's worlds, and a passion between them which won't be denied.

Trust in Me: As kids, the stock car racing town of Glen Oaks called them The Outlaws, but no one knew the hoodlums on the streets would grow up to be upstanding citizens. Their leader, Linc, has become a minister, but never got over his first love, Margo, now an atheist because of her upbringing in a religious cult. Beth is lonely after the death of her young husband, Danny, until Tucker, the man who blames himself for Danny’s death, comes to town. And Annie has overcome emotional and physical scars from her youthful marriage to Joe, but will her progress be enough when he reenters her life five years after their divorce? Troubled young teen, Ronny, reunites all of them, and in trying to help the boy, the three couples uncover a passion for each other that can’t be denied.

The Bodyguard: When Cord McKay saves Stacey Webb from an attack, she has no idea he’s played a devastating role in her past. After a second incident, she insists he become her bodyguard. Both Cord, who is guilt-ridden, and her father, who hates Cord with a righteous passion, balk at the idea but Stacey wins out. Though he tries to remain distant and remote, a vehicle accident and a kidnapping attempt bring Stacey and Cord together and nothing can stop the irrepressible attraction and ensuing love between these two very appealing characters.

Author’s note: Originally published under the name A SUITABLE BODYGUARD in 1996, this book was the winner of the 1996 Reviews Choice Best Superromance
