Tethered (The Venairald Cycle Book 1) by Robyn Braemer
Requirements: ePUB / MOBI / AZW Reader, 1.5MB
Overview: Long, long ago in a land far away, a land of skin changers, nymphs, fairies, seers, and sorcerers as well as other magical folk, the Venairald ruled with an iron fist. The Venairald were cruel, even inhumane, crushing their subjects under their rule. Then the Venairald vanished. Enough time has passed that the tale of the Venairald’s vanquishing has faded into legend and legend faded into little more than memories of distant fragments of the past. The great realm of Ibarath is broken into numerous smaller kingdoms, each ruled by descendants of Venairald half-breed bastards, claiming but a small part of the powerful magic the Venairald held in their grasp.

Banderlo is a kingdom bordering the northern edge of what was Ibarath. Skin changers rule the land of Banderlo and must always rule Banderlo but fewer skin changers are born every generation, even when both parents are skin changers. Prince Harrald must find the lost princess of the small kingdom of Venair to ensure that skin changers remain on the throne of Banderlo. Though time has eroded the reason why it is imperative for skin changers to rule the northern kingdom, the royal house of Banderlo takes that responsibility seriously and Prince Harrald travels the realm looking for his betrothed without knowing anything about her.

Moira’s life has been a life of secrecy and hiding. She has grown up in a small village in the shadow of the great Skurries Mountains, also known as the Bones because only bones remain of anyone who tries to cross the mountains, under the very protective shadow of her strong-willed mother. When a mysterious stranger arrives at their village home and tries to poison the girl, her mother no longer feels safe hidden away in their small village and moves them from city to city and town to town to keep Moira hidden from the threat always shrouding her. They eventually settle in a city where Moira feels safe and at home at last but the sense of security and freedom she finds at last does not survive the threat that lingers over her and the true reason her life is in danger surfaces.
