On May 1, New York Times bestselling romance writer Susan Mallery kicked off a summer of small-town romance novels by releasing Halfway There, an e-book exclusive novella. Although Halfway There is part of Mallery's most popular series, Fool's Gold romances, the story can be read as a standalone by readers who have not yet visited fictional Fool's Gold, California, known as the Land of Happy Endings. Priced under three dollars, Halfway There is available for the Kindle, the NOOK, in the Apple iBookstore, and wherever e-books are sold.

Halfway There introduces the Hopkins sisters of Fool's Gold. Heroine Fayrene Hopkins and her twin Ana Raquel were raised by their sister Dellina after their parents died. Now an adult, Fayrene is determined to make a success of her temp business before she falls in love and settles down. She's heading into the second year of her five-year life plan... and meeting a charming man like wind power engineer Ryan Patterson is not on her schedule.

Readers who don't have an e-reading device have a couple of options for reading the e-book. If the reader has a smart phone, she can get e-book reading apps for free in the App store or on the Android market. Readers can also get free software for reading e-books on their computer.

"I've heard from dozens of readers who tried the free software," Mallery says, "and every one of them loved it. They said it was really easy to install and hey, the price is right. You can't beat 'free.' Just do a web search for a phrase like 'read ebooks on my computer' or 'read ebooks on my Mac.'"

Halfway There is the first of several Fool's Gold romances set for release this year. Just One Kiss (May 28), Two of a Kind (June 25), and Three Little Words (July 30) will be released in mass market paperback, ebook, and audio. In September and October, Mallery will release the Fool's Gold Cookbook (August 27) and a Christmas gift-sized hardcover Fool's Gold romance novel, Christmas on Fourth Street (September 24). In 2012, Mallery reached as high as #2 on the New York Times bestsellers list with her Fool's Gold romance novels.
