For five years the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Holiday Cookie Contest has brought dozens of delicious, tested cookie recipes to readers in time for the holidays.

Now, nearly three dozen of those recipes — winners and runners-up from all five years — plus a baker's dozen Journal Sentinel food team favorites, each accompanied by a color photo, are collected in a new ebook you can download soon to your tablet, ereader or smartphone.

"Best Holiday Cookies," the Journal Sentinel's first e-book, will be available in Apple, Kindle, Nook and Android formats. (Purchase and download from the Apple store, Amazon, Barnes & Noble or Google Play.)

The e-book offers all the advantages of the digital format: touch-of-a-finger navigation (click to a recipe from the table of contents, alphabetical index or a special cookie photo index), personalized type size and font, and the always-handy search function.

And it's just $3.99.

From 1 to 2 p.m. both days at Wine & Dine Wisconsin, cookies baked from recipes in the book will be handed out from the Journal Sentinel's booth just inside the main doors of the exhibit hall. Culinary baking and pastry arts students from Milwaukee Area Technical College will bake and distribute the cookies.

The e-book will be available for viewing at the booth and should be ready for purchase at all of the various stores in the next few days.

Note: If you don't have a tablet or ereader, you can still purchase, download and enjoy the cookie book on your computer. Kindle (Amazon), Nook (Barnes & Noble) and Google Play all offer free software to read their e-books on PCs.

There are no plans at this time to publish a printed book.
