Audio quality is tied to your account, when you log into spotify servers - and select a song, the files are downloaded in usually around 3 different parts - depending on how long you've listened to the song - ie you don't download the full in 1 go as 1 file. Each part of the song is encrypted and the decryption key is tied to your account/timestamp.

Songs stored on the servers are encoded in different bitrates - so when you log into the server with a free account - you can only download at the max bitrate for your account (so about 128kbps) usually.

If you have a premium account - this apk will download the exteme bitrate if you have that selected in your settings.

I won't go into it anymore than that - so if you want extreme audio and have a sound system where you will notice the difference, then you need a premium account, just make up a free 7 day account for that. You can spoof the mac on your device and use a fake email for that if you already had an account in the past.

Thanks Mr. Dude for the explanation, but pardon my ignorance.
I thought one of the feature of this mod is to "unlock extreme audio quality" without actually having a premium account.
If someone already had a premium account, why would one even bother to use this mod at all?

I appreciate all the other features that this mod provides, but it's UNTURE to say "extreme quality unlocked" if it only works for people having premium account, would you agree?

When that feature was originally unlocked it was working and you did get premium audio - until spotify changed something on their servers - it's just the description needs updating - not a big deal really unless you have 'bat hearing' or are listening to this on some high end audio equipment - if using a phone/tablet - you won't notice any difference in sound quality between the bitrates.

has anyone been able to get "Behind the Music" feature working?

i checked the same songs that work for it on my friend's iPhone, but it doesn't work for me.

i'm on a stock Google Pixel.

Spotify connect works for me, until I pause. Then the devices become "unavailable for listening on". Fully agree about the "devices available" banner too, absolutely pointless having it there permanently, it only used to appear when there were actually devices available!

Thanks for this Bal - the 7.8.0.607 version I'd been using since March suddenly seemed to have been knobbled yesterday and was showing an annoying 'buy premium yada, yada..' splash screen all the time. This release has solved the issue.

Also thanks for the Extreme quality info in this thread. At some point in time i was sure the audio quality went noticeably more clipped and compressed on my home set-up. The music used to sparkle like near CD quality with extreme enabled, then it started sounding closer to like Internet Radio station quality. The servers side 128kbps change certainly explains why this happened.
