Is it necessary to use all of the letters of the two groups to create the substance?
all of the letters of the two groups are used to create the substance?
Can a single group be used twice (or must we choose two different groups)?
You must chose choose two different groups
You are really going to hate me when you work this one out

You are going to hate us when you realize we already do... ;)

Question: are actually the letters from the groups used, or do they stand for others referring to that periodic table?
Well this will increase the hate quotient, the answer is Neither
Oh and btw you really do not need to be frantically looking at the 540,000 compounds to be found in the Combined Chemical Dictionary, the answer is as simple as abc

Very well. You asked for it, you get it. Let me initiate my brute-force-riddle-solving-machine then...

Question: Is the 'substance' we're looking for WATER?
Well done Zacharie, that is correct. By adding 2 groups together you get hijklmno or in other words h to(2) o , H2O.
I suppose now you will be Queening it over everyone

I leave to others the second part of finding the queen you asked for, dear Sherlockx, leaving you the pleasure to torture your 'fans' a bit more - in case you wonder why there isn't much interest for the riddles. Haha! (Read my PM taking that back). And while you allow me to talk for once, next time maybe you ask how people come to the solution... then maybe your riddles will become really hard to solve... (Another PM *sigh*)

A bonus 5 solver points to the first person who can explain why Albatross is a clue to the answer to the first part of this riddle answered by Zacharie.
Do remember that the second part of this riddle remains unsolved.
Also remember to send Your guest riddle and answer by pm to Sherlockx

Is it the Ice Queen?Yes I will accept that as the answer although I had thought that the traditional answer was the Snow Queen ... Hans Christian Andersen

Oh, and I feel so stupid for not seeing H to O, lmao.

With 'Albatross', do you mean the bird?
Yes , I certainly don't mean the noise rock band from Wilkes-Barre, PA.

The relation between WATER and the Albatross...

A few days ago, the same day I guessed the substance we were looking for is water - nobody told me I had to explain how I found that - I discovered the link between an albatross and water. That water thing was haunting my brain in a way I was feeling so thirsty, that I finally overruled my objection against buying something 'because everybody does so', and I bought myself a SodaStream drinks-maker. My first experience in adding gass to water are nothing to be proud about - you really have to follow the instructions, and that water level is indeed something to respect - but to be short it took a few wet towels and about two litres of water to finally end up with half a liter of soda-water. After that I discovered why large drink companies don't worry about those machines been sold, as after I added some sirop to get some tasty fresh lemonade, I'm sure the original lemonades and cokes will taste twice as good as before... Anyway. The Albatross. I like to run. A friend called earlier to go running together, and it was about the time I had to leave. So I put my half litre of self-made lemonade in the freezer, so it would be cold when I return. Then we went running. After a few kilometers, the idea struck my mind that perhaps it hadn't been a good idea to put that bottle in the freezer, as it could be totally frozen when I got home. So I ran a little faster, not aware my friend didn't have the same condition as I have. When he noticed me I was running really fast today, I just said it was because of my new NikeID I have since a couple of days. I explained him you can order those on the internet, have them designed as you like, and even have your name on them. When he asked me if my name was on the shoes I was wearing, I asked him why he didn't check it himself. So he lowered his head to get closer to my shoes, but! As we were running very fast now; and he was getting very tired, he step on his own tongue and hit the road really hard. I suppose they needed to fix him because when I left the hospital they said they would keep him there for a few days. I returned home in a hurry, to find out the lemonade wasn't frozen yet. Phew! When I opened the bottle, I had a small doubt whether there was still enough gas inside, so I decided to add some. Jee... how smart I looked a few sentences earlier, when I told you to follow the instructions... if I had read them till the end, I would have known you never may add gas to a nearly-frozen liquid. The result was terrible. There's a storm harassing our country since a couple of days, and previous nights I've been lying awake in my bed, anxious about the roof would come of. I never expected my roof to be blown away from the inside, by a gas explosion from the drinks-maker... And how unlucky was the Albatross who was just flying by that moment. A roof hitting an Albatross in his flight... is like a riddle being solved before it was created...

So that must be the relation between the water and the Albatross, I think. 8)
No, but did the newspaper headlines read
Quote:
Albatross stoned with roofies
?

hmmmm.... searching for the answer.... i think i'm getting there

u said, computers, screen savers, books, movies....
i can't find it!

EDIT: is it the queen of water by laura resau?
No, I accepted Olagaton's answer post #21 above, but as I said I was thinking of The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen.
What we are looking for now is the link in the title "Albatross"to a clue to give the answer water. The first part of the link is The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner, so why would that make you think of water?

Well then, my guess that albatross is not just a bird, its a seabird.... Sea=water
My other guess is this:
Rhyme is actually similar to rime, as in the rime of the ancient mariner:

Day after day, day after day,
We stuck, nor breath nor motion;
As idle as a painted ship
Upon a painted ocean.

Water, water, every where,
And all the boards did shrink;
Water, water, every where,
Nor any drop to drink.

"Water, water, every where" its so related......
+ the statue of the ancient mariner has an albatross around his neck (i can't give you the pic cuz i'm on phone now)
I'll give you the link
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Anc ... 500pix.jpg
That is exactly right, well done rirozizo
New riddle to be posted soon
