that's not entirely correct, there are some applications that support long:lat co-ordinates in PRC. depends on the device being used, eg. Smartphone vs WM vs Symbian vs PNA and the application on such devices. there are a number of Chinese apps and PNA's that have long:lat co-ordinates displayed. Mapking also displays long:lat co-ordinates, and it is for the Smartphone, Symbian, WM based devices.

1. No Chinese input, imagine what you will think when using IGO8 for UK but without English input!
Though Chinese handwriting input can be found somewhere else, it is still not good, since it does not provide a list of similiar characters for choice -- u know, u can't expect WM6 to reconize every character writen by various people correctly.
The input system of R66 N8 is good enough for IGO 8 to learn from.

Agreed ! This will deter users who want to enter Chinese words :?
Anywhere, let's hope iGO8 will release the input enhancement soon, so they can roll-out big time & target, say just 1% of China users ==> 13mil

2. No POI shown on map by default, though you can set the POI to be shown on map through some complicated settings.
..... here u can lean how to show POI on map:
http://www.cyberfans.cn/bbs/viewthread.php?tid=21744&page=1#pid459263

TQVM for this reference, I followed the instruction and now walla .... all POIs show nicely on map 8)
But, as there are soooooo many POIs, can't really tell what-is-what, looks to me pool of "blue" coins around ...
Have to do some filtering by personal preference .....

3. No smart searching, like R66, anyone can tell me how to search a village by its name? With R66 I can find it in few seconds, but with IGO8, it seems mission impossible.

Huh, I'm really sweating with this one ..... somemore without Chinese input :?
Could it be there are sooooooo many cities & villages that make the searching nightmare on a small device like PDA & PNA ??

So, I normally locate the main province & the nearest city around, then zoom in, drag & move around to find the street or small village. Luckily moving around iGO8 map is much smoother & realistic as compare to the Garmin map ....

4. "Backup user's info" does not work, can not back up my favorite adds.

Er, I don't even know this is not working, thx for sharing !! :D
So I guess I just have to backup the entire SDMMC card

So far I still face this problem :
If change lang to English (US), the menu, map, street names & search function display correctly.
However, POI addresses still in Chinese, 3 provinces will display as :
_kji
_kli
_kti
right after "Zhejiang" province when perform address search function.

Anyone have such problem ? Or it's just my device's problem ? Appreciate experience sharing here, thx in advance :D

Will physically test this out when I'm there mid of this month, hurray !!

I've not tryied MAPKING, know nothing about it.
R66 still display long/lat, why ? 'cuz as far as I know, it has not been officially released to China.
Take a look at the local GPS apps such as CJT, DDT, their early versions displayed LONG/LAT, but since last year, LONG/LAT suddenly gone.
I tryied but can not find the official policy on web, but it has proven its exitence.
Also take a look at GARMIN XT's China version, where are the long/lat? None!
In short, it can be assured that when IGO's official version is realised, no LONG/LAT will be displayed.

However, I don't thinkg LONG/LAT display is so important, I just hope IGO will be BASICALLY functional.

Thanks.

I tried to implement laneinfo_signpost into 8.0.0.5400 but it doesn't work.

The executable lacks some commands:
signpost_bg signpost_border signpost_fade signpost_bottom_padding signpost_top_padding etc...

Also my map has not got the signpost info in it. The chinese map has.

Nice try.

Cheers
