It is risky for an author to launch a series set in a world too processed during the last two decades to the point of generating a sense of weariness among readers quick to dismiss a work without even flaky. Featuring the Vikings, Aslak avoids this pitfall for the moment thanks to its effective scenario and graphics particularly attractive.

The first volume by starting up a drama tired of hearing the same stories (a nod to the theme rehashed Nordic comics of heroic fantasy?) a Viking chief bard decapitates her and gives her two year son claiming the succession to bring him a new tale. In case of failure, slay their mother and the youngest, being held hostage. To make things worse, only one of the two brothers will survive to return: one that will be the best storyteller. After two attempts of fratricide, the seductive Skeggy, the eldest, with hand-eye, a bloodthirsty pirate, while his younger rickety Sligand, boarded the Aslak, drakkar sorry the crew crazy, commissioned by the beautiful and temperamental Brynhild. This second volume might appear as a volume transition if granted a timeout action. There is no respite for the enemy brothers met in the World below. Sligand managed to get hold of the fairy tale, capricious a book that contains all imaginable stories but do not tell anyone. Overboard and guided by a winged creature of bad quality, Skeggy finds himself trapped on Aslak. For its part, the Borgne and his men fighting for their survival. In red thread, a man fleeing the terror clutching a mysterious fibula against him, the key to return? It will brave the dangers but also external conflict and internal pettiness to return to the land of living men.

All the ingredients are there for a saga: a conflict of Corneille, well paced adventure, myths revisited engaging characters and colorful humor though stereotyping and that does not disown readers Asterix and the Normans. We must add to this spooky decor highlighted by a warm coloring that reminds me of Alim the Tanner.

A promising story to follow the series for fans of the genre.
