SmartGear v2.0.9
Requirements: Windows Mobile 2003/5/6
Overview: SmartGear is a multi-system game emulator. This software allows you to play games written for classic handheld and console gaming systems on your Windows Desktop PC, Pocket PC or SmartPhone. It currently emulates GameBoy, GameBoy Color, NES, GameGear, MasterSystem, TurboGrafx-16, and Genesis/MegaDrive. SmartGear is written in portable C code and can be built on a variety of systems. The mobile version uses optimized ARM assembly language components for maximum performance. The purpose is to accurately emulate your favorite classic games at full speed on any Windows device.

Playing Your Games With SmartGear
SmartGear does not contain any games, as they are copyrighted by the companies which produced them. You will have to find the cartridge images yourself. It is recommended that you buy the original cartridge for every game you wish to play, or use a cartridge copier on the ones you own. The games may be stored uncompressed or archived in ZIP files. The system type is detected by the filename extension. The files may be stored anywhere on your machines; use the built-in file selector to navigate your directories and load them.
The Desktop PC version defines the following keys while playing:
ESC = quit current game
F1-F4 = scale the window 1-4X
F5 = stretch the window to fit the entire display (with DirectDraw enabled)
F6 = Load a game state (not fully functional)
F7 = Save a game state (not fully functional)
F11 = Toggle speed throttling (see how fast it can run)
In Progress...
I'm currently working on getting more games to run (e.g. adding more NES mappers). Future enhancements will include a rewritten YM2612 to enable full speed Genesis emulation. It should be relatively easy to add another system emulator such as Colecovision, MSX or more variations of existing emulators. Please let me know what you would like to see. An Atari ST emulator is an idea I was toying with because I was an early adopter of that system. I'm also working on a SNES emulator written in ARM asm.

The latest version of SmartGear is 1.1.6.
The major version of SmartGear has jumped from 1.x.x to 2.x.x due to a complete rewrite of it's internals and a new set of features. All of the internal emulator code has been rewritten to be thread-safe/re-entrant and error checked. What this means is that more stability and cool new features are now possible. Critical feedback and suggestions are always welcome; the emphasis of this product is to reflect the users' needs, so please feel free to send me a note with any ideas you have for improving it.

Here are the highlights of the new version:
· Optimized Display Paint
· Live File Browser
· Create Shortcut
· Savegame File Consolidation
· Bluetooth Gamepad Support
· 2-Player Support
· Status Display
· Sound Fixes

Well, sound is stable, and I can hear controls responding nicely.

...but there's no visual whatsoever on my AT&T Tilt (Flashed with AthineOS and enhanced with Gfxboost/HTC-CA OpenGL drivers).

I tested it and the visual displayed fine, but the virtual pad didn't appear at all and there was no way to exit the game. Like someone said above, it'd be great if it did GBA games and the virtual pad worked! :D

Okay, scratch the other report.

I disabled GDI and changed the screen mode... and now I can get a visual. This is the first release of SmartGear that didn't have any kind of audio chopping. I'm very fond of that already.

It's still being a pain in the ass to use though.

On-screen keypad doesn't wanna work right (crashes every time I enable it)... the alternate touchscreen dpad delta option is far more problematic than 1.1.6's in a few ways, but it's also kinda neat.

I no longer have to raise the stylus off the screen to get to another direction, but there's no set click area for accessing the menu... instead, the menu is accessed via double-tap... kind of flawed since there's a lot of games that use double-tap of a direction to run... I tried it out with Link's Awakening; it's imperfect, but a very neat concept that makes the experience feel like the game is actually tailored to PocketPCs.

Also kind of miss having the A/B/C collision areas, because that made it very ideal to have a hardware d-pad, and onscreen A/B/C keys for fighting games or something that required more precise, swift d-pad input.

I'm a bit surprised to see that there's still no graphical smoothing... I'd rather utilize the entire screen than deal with letterboxing, and it's a bit punishing without smoothing (but doable).

Otherwise, my only issue is that it keeps turning on bluetooth automatically... the idea of bluetooth gamepads is nice, but it's just battery drain if they aren't being used... and I can't find a way to stop it from automatically enabling bluetooth.

I like it, but I could see myself getting fed up and going back to 1.1.6

The same for me the demo has expired. But I had to change the date in the setting for playing :( The date must be before 1 June 2010 at the time you launch the emulator.

Or you can download the latest beta version wich work fine.
