New Features - 17 / 04 / 2010 v6.90
- Local variables can be declared with a specific type. Declaring numeric variables significantly boosts the performance of numeric calculations.
- Subs parameters types and subs return type can also be declared.
- New types: Number and Integer. Correspond to .Net Double and Int32.
- Subs parameters can be passed by reference (ByRef). This can be used to return several values from a sub.
- Improved syntax for working with dynamic objects and dynamic controls.
Instead of writing Control(ControlName, ControlType), it is now possible to write ControlType(ControlName). The desktop IDE fully supports the new syntax with autocomplete and with the usual popup menu.

- Desktop forms size and layout is more accurate.
- Scroll bar indicators. The desktop IDE now shows useful indicators above the vertical scroll bar that helps with code navigation.
- FileFlush keyword. Writes any cached data to the file.
- SQL library was updated to SQLite 3.6.16.
- More clear error messages for many common mistakes.
- Many bug fixes and other minor improvements.

Thanks to spectra9 for special Tip: For those who are having trouble registering because of previous install, setup not asking for e-mail etc., just do the following:
1. Uninstall any version of Basic4PPC you may have installed
2. Delete this folder: C:\Documents and Settings\<your_user_name>\Application Data\Anywhere Software
You have to turn on "View hidden files and folders" in Windows Explorer folder options to see this one
3. Install Basic4PPC from farshid's post, it should now ask for a license file and e-mail.
4. Enjoy

No, Guy! You have to be a registered member to actually download the file the link points to. :) I think that is what he means.

No good.
Apparently this version cannot compile Device applications - despite the installed .NET frameworks all attempts to use them during a compilation fail, on Desktop and Notebook PCs alike.
The error message is always:
"Cannot locate .NET Compact Framework 2.0 files".

I suspect that something is wrong about this offered package.
Too bad, as I created an entire database app with it just to find out that I can not create a device .EXE with it in the end.

Does anybody know how to fix this problem?
Thanks!
m

Can you elaborate?
I did a clean install on my Win2k desktop and Vista notebook PCs, regged with email and license.txt as required.
The program runs as it should, claims to be registered, even compiles DESKTOP executables, but consistently fails to compile the mobile EXE, as explained.
I DID have earlier 'modified' versions ( 6.5, 6.8 ) installed on these machines.
Maybe the cleanup process of the Application Data area is not sufficient and leaves residues that will trigger this odd behavior?
How to wipe this sucker off the disk entirely for another clean installation attempt?
I really would like to write some apps with it.
Thanks!

m

1st. Check 1st post for spectra9's tip :D

2nd. When it refuse to compile, the program shows an error webpage.
this webpage contains links to the required dlls. Go and install them

3rd. Check the B4PPC forum for a solution ;)

I am using a non-pirate version of 6.9. I have also experienced these problems. This is what corrected it for me.

1. Make sure your desktop has .NET 2.0 or higher for both Windows and WinMobile...

Try and uninstall and then re-install your .Net. You do realise you also need to install your device's netCF. 2.0 on your PC? So on your desktop you need the desktop windows NET version AND your device NET version. The compiler requires all versions it will be required to compile for.

So when you install the .netCF 2.0 CAB onto your device you will need the .MSI Windows version of the device .NET CF, too. this is the installer that would normally activesync the CAB across to the device. But it also installs the device NET into the Windows system. Only once the desktop has both desktop AND device .NET versions installed will b4ppc compiler be able to compile.
(It works with 2.0 and 3.5)

DON'T FORGET WHAT THE MAIN POST SAYS... If you have used a previous version make sure you follow the cleanup routine Farshid described in the primary post. :)

1. Uninstall any version of Basic4PPC you may have installed using this method...

Yes it is your computer that is at fault not the package. As I said before, you not only need .NET 2.0 or better for desktop but you also need .NETcf 2.0 or better for device. Both have to be installed on desktop. I did have a problem with 6.50 once. I had .NET 2.0 installed but the compiler said it could not find it. I got around it by uninstalling it and reinstalling it. I think it has something to do with version mixups in the registry as I once used .net 3.5. It really annoyed me to be told .NET 2.0 wasn't on the laptop when I knew it was so I understand your frustration.

If it is any consolation these sorts of problems also happen with the versions that are purchased (I believe this package was a purchased one FWIW).

If you would like me to send you a link for the device .NET that must be installed on your pc do ask.

Sarah

Thanks for all the advice!
I checked my notebook and see both the Net 3.5 SP1 and Net cf 3.5 installed, so I DO have both packages, WTF?
Could try to un- and re-install them, if this is really necessary (but stupid).
Will try another desktop with a clean XP installation and see if I can compile on that box instead.
This app is a real beast, I squeezed over 100 PPC apps on my little pocket PC and this is the most resilient of them all...
