Overview: Pocket Fritz 4 is the chess program for whenever and wherever you are. The new HIARCS engine, written by Mark Uniacke, is impressive because of its positional play and tactical power. My first post and am unable to start a new topic so will reply here. Please move it if you want.

Was happy to finally see PF4 posted but had a few problems with it. Played a game against Chess Genius which Hiarcs 13 lost but it played the entire game at 3 kNs, even with just a few pieces remaining. If I clicked on analyze then the speed would go to about 8 kNs. Also selecting Hiarcs 12.1 would also give a speed of around 8 kNs. In addition under parameters, Selectivity and Pruning were absent but changing to H12.1 brought those settings back. Have had no problems with PF3.
Curious if others are experiencing these problems.

pardon my ignorance but what are kNs? and you say that chess genius actually beat pocket fritz 4? also, is there a way to get the hiarcs 12.1 engine installed with pocket fritz 4 as an option if i so desire?

kNs is kilo nodes per second. Yeah, was waiting to see how badly Genius would get beaten but of course that's only based on 1 game and not a fair result since the nodes per second for Hiarcs 13 were always at 3000.

Click on the blue overlapping squares to the right of the ? at the bottom so game doesn't use the entire screen. Then right under the board it shows the depth and the kNs.

As far as the other engines go, I guess it automatically imported the ones that came with Pocket Fritz 3. Also there were other engines for PF3 given when the files for PF3 were posted.

Finally got Hiarcs 13 playing greater than 3 kNs. The only way to move the ELO slider is to check the Simulate box and I had it set for 2500 ELO with the box checked. Unchecking the box increases the speed. So why does the box have to checked when moving the slider and what is the difference between it being checked or not?

Pocket Shredder also has a slider but no simulate box but does have an Auto Adj. Strength box.

Hi indiankid2000

Yeah as I stated in my previous message was my mistake for not unchecking that Simulate ELO box. Sorry should have checked it all out before posting. But I was so happy to finally get this program that I was in a rush to play it.
Works great now and even hit 20k nodes/sec during the endgame.

And again moved the book and games files that it installed in internal memory to my storage card to free up about 5 megs.

Great job, JetMouse! Thanks!

Had hoped Pocket Fritz 4 would have had the option to do engine matches. Well maybe PF5 will :)
