App: Arcus Weather (with Radar) Pro v6.0.0.5
Developer: Labrys Software
Category: Weather

IAP: $1.01 - $2.73

Arcus Weather Pro is a weather forecasting application with a focus on highly accurate predictions of temperature and rain. As the Android market is literally flooded with weather apps that claim to sport more features than any other, how does Arcus Weather Pro stand out in the crowd? It utilizes the new Forecast.io API to get the most accurate and current weather information possible, which is ironically where most weather forecasting apps fail. Forecast.io is backed by a wide range of data sources, which are aggregated together statistically to provide the most accurate forecast possible for a given location. Out of all the numerous weather apps I have tested yielding questionable results, this is by far the most accurate I have seen.

The interface adheres to the Material Design specification nicely as it provides both a light and dark mode in a sleek and simplistic fashion. There are three main screens to navigate between to hone in on your desired weather outlook ; Now, Hourly and Daily. The Now screen is the landing page by default, which offers a wealth of relative information of what the weather is like now in your current location. Here you will find temperature, humidity, wind, air pressure, dew point, visibility, sun aspect times and a handy precipitation graph that refreshes according to your settings. However, some advanced statistics didn't make the cut such as pollen reports and UV indexing. The Hourly page offers a relative summary list including a detailed precipitation graph that is configurable between a list and charting, which may also be selected to display from 6 to 48 hours. The Daily page lists the weather for each relative day for a week period; each day may be tapped to bring up a summary of predictions for that 24 hour period. There are also severe weather warnings that display in the upper toolbar as an exclamation point to give you a a detailed report of upcoming benign local weather.

Arcus Weather Pro will allow you to store up to 10 weather locales which are configured in the settings menu and will also display a report summary of the current selected locale in the notifications menu. You may also have the app vibrate your device if there will be precipitation in the area, as well as full widgets for your home screen and full Android Wear support. Arcus Weather Pro may be a bit visually bland for some tastes with its monochromatic look and lack of colorful graphics, but I find the minimal look to be sleek and efficient and would rather have accuracy over aesthetics in a weather forecasting solution. I highly recommend Arcus Weather Pro to all who enjoy keeping informed of weather reports, both local and abroad, to help aid in your daily activities and travels.

Pros:
  • Highly accurate weather forecasting with aggregated reports.
  • Up to ten definable locations to display local and global weather.
  • Full notifications, vibration, and widgets for precipitation warnings.

Cons:
  • No advanced statistics such as pollen reports or UV index.
  • The monochromatic interface might be a bit bland for some users.
