Anna Matilda (née McNeill) Whistler (September 27, 1804 – January 3, 1881) was the mother of American-born, British-based painter, James McNeill Whistler, who made her the subject of his famous painting Arrangement in Grey and Black No.1, often titled, Whistler's Mother.

Congrats agamal - a brilliant deduction! I'm curious how you figured that out, or was it a lucky guess? I was expecting this one to go on for a little while longer.

17. Are you involved in the church? - According to one source I found, Anna McNeill Whistler was "very religious" and her son had to tone down his lifestyle when she moved in with him. However, as I've said before, almost everybody in the extended European world went to church in the 19th century, so a question phrased like this isn't very informative. If asked "Are you known for your work in the church?" the answer would have been no. This was the red herring I had in mind.

35. Has this person contributed anything to students? - Although (AFAIK) Whistler's mother never taught anything herself, a lot of people have studied the painting.

I was intrigued by the questions about India and Antarctica - it would have been nice to say yes. Apparently Anna McNeill Whistler did live in Russia for several years - no less exotic for an American woman at the time - but nobody asked about that.

I checked famous death from the year 1881, there was not many white (Caucasian) women from America continent, with the last name starting with R, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z
then I read biographies, on wiki I didn't find any information about her religious life, but on different website http://ncpedia.org/biography/whistler-anna-mathilda there was such something - pure luck I guess
