I am looking for ideas that will make your PPCW experience better. I am looking for realistic ideas and not things like 'scrap the iphone section' or 'change to vbulletin', however if you dislike something and can see a way to improve it, suggestions such as 'there are too many forums, we should be able to select the forums we want to see' or 'vbulletin is preferred because it has x feature' are fine. Any argument with substance and reason will be accepted.

The ideas can be anything from a modification to the board software, to having a news portal, to allowing PC warez, to providing advertising for your site or related sites, to us giving usage of rapidshare premium accounts for you to download content on this site, or a free proxy to use while browsing this site. Of course there will always be provisions around everything that is suggested, but nothing will be considered too far out there.

We are always trying to make this the best site on the internet, and anything we can realistically do, we will try.

So, some things to consider:
  • What would make you come here first out of any other site on the internet
  • What would keep you on this site for longer
  • What would make you encourage you to get your friends to come here
  • What premium services could we offer that you would pay for either one off, or as a subscription
  • What could we change to make the usage of this site better
  • What functions could we add to this site that you currently have to use other sites for
  • What kind of promotions or competitions would you like to see

I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

sdawson

Current ideas:
  • Enable updating of first (or second) post where users can add mirrors, working/non working devices
  • A wiki on how to things around the site

Completed:
  • Hide porn section in UCP (same as device dependent)

1. How to post a release
A How-To-Site is nice, however you could also add a custom html form where the user can (or must) the information, upload the main picture (and additional pictures), and then is checked for complete requirements. Just a web version of the ppcw release tool.

The How to idea is great. For instance, how do I block the porn links from showing when I ask for new posts. It might be in here somewhere but I haven't been able to find it.

I have nothing against porn but there are times when someone is looking over my shoulder and I have to explain that it's a part of this site.

There is no way to do that just yet.

Exactly, the fastest way to get rid of (porn) spam is to either report it or just PM one of the current online staff members.

He means if you click on view new posts porn is displayed along with non-adult material. Thats what he wants to get rid of.

What I can do is create a usergroup that anyone can join, and if you're in it, adult forums will not be displayed.

The must subtle would be an age check, based on the profile: <18 and >50 don't see porn.

I will add it as an option in UCP, so people have a choice. This will be done within 48 hours. Now should it be disabled or enabled by default?

How about having some system for updating first posts?
For example some threads have the only working mirrors buried in the middle.
Or there could be a section with all the extra info about the app such as known bugs, supported or unsupported devices, or lots of other info that gets repeated 100's of times in threads like iGO8.

That's not a bad idea. I will look into this one where users can update mirrors, and add working/non working devices.

It should be enabled by default, so newcomers won't post alot of threads rioting about not being able to view the porn section. And for those who would like to hide the porn section, would simply just look at a thread similar to the 'Hiding device dependent forums'.

That's a very nice idea. I would like to see it take place.

Create a report a day, with all releases that are completely offline (original release and all mirrors), to see for everybody and to add mirrors.
This would, however, require that links are classified and can be correlated to a specific file.

Users should be able to view the adult sections by default sd.

Ill try to create a full wiki page of just about everything around here over the weekend.

tapdov: your idea is great but hard to implement. We will try to figure something out though; it really would be very beneficial if implemented properly.
