psx4droid v2 (PSX Emulator) v1.1.2

Overview: psx4droid v2 is a Sony Playstation 1 emulator for high-end Androids (600MHz+ recommended).


Be sure to read the included help file inside the psx4droid v2 menu for help with topics such as setting up the emulator.

NOTES:

I read some people want full screen scaling. The Playstation uses multiple resolutions during gameplay. I keep the aspect ratio maintained. The most used resolution on the PS1 is 320x240 which fits well on both portrait and landscape modes. Though some resolutions larger than 320 pixels wide, for instance, will need to be scaled down to fit in portrait mode. I scale down to 320 pixels wide and make the height keep the same aspect to not stretch/skew the image. You don't want a 320x240 image to be full screen at 320x480 or it will be stretched vertically and look horrid. Before I scaled to 320x240 by removing parts of the image before scaling down. Now I don't. This is as "full screen" as it gets and still maintain image quality.

Some phones are limited to 30 FPS. By default psx4droid renders at 60 FPS. If this is the case for your phone, to avoid slowdown set the psx4droid setting for screen refresh rate to 30.


Tested on the Samsung Galaxy S, Galaxy Tab, Droid X, HTC Evo 4G, and MyTouch 4G.

The Evo 4G and MyTouch 4G seem to perform about 10 FPS slower than other phones of similar spec. The reason seems to be due to clearing the instruction cache, a software technique needed by this type of code. The same issue can be seen in GameBoid which uses this technique. We are looking into ways to resolve this.

Recent changes:
- Fixed some device's recent incompatibility with previous release of psx4droid.
- Added CDDA music support via a setting.
- Tweaked sound rendering further.
- Changed from software scaling to hardware scaling. Now maintains proper aspect ratio. Try landscape orientation if the aspect ratio makes portrait mode hard to see.

this freaking emulator is garbage. I get 40-60 fps on games using my G2 OC'd to 1.8 GHZ...lame

I tried it with my HD2. It´s working, but like the others said, its very laggy. About 50 frames with oced CPU at 1400MHz. I had on my WinMobile 6.5 FPSCE (donated version). That one ran fine, but i think it needs time before this emulator will be perfect.

I'm not so much pissed that the emulator itself isnt in a fully working condition, but I am kinda pissed at the actions of the developer for a couple reasons.

1. He doesn't update his customer base with news on his progress; we are left guessing when a new update is coming. I think this perpetuates a feeling that psx4droid is abandonware, even if he really is working on it.

2. He doesn't respond to any email questions (this one I can understand a little bit considering how many emails he must receive from illiterate noobs; however, I have received email responses from fede from launcherpro, anderweb from adw, and yongxhu from all the *oid emulators)

3. He charges $6 for something that tbh is in a gray area in terms of pricing. He didn't develop the ps1, nor any of its games, but he does provide a means by which to play these games on our phones. I suppose he deserves my 6 dollars, oops I mean 12.

4. When he dropped v2, his reasoning for not just updating sounded a bit like bologna to me

I had faith in zodttd when I was in the I*hone scene (even then he charges 2-3 dollars more per product than yong does for his emulators on android)

if there were a way I could play the psx version of xcom i'd be happy! I never found a rom of that for playstation though
