The story of Kick-Ass continues. What happens when Dave joins a team of wanna-be superheroes? Reviewed by G-Man on March 30, 2011:
        The Good
The series definitely has a different feel from the first. That's great because it would be so easy to just continue (or rehash) what we've already seen. The idea that a bunch of people would follow Kick-Ass' direction and take matters into their own hands in defending the streets. Kick-Ass having others to work with and relate to adds a new level of element to the series...unless things turn sour as they did with Red Mist in the last series.
The combination of John Romita Jr's breakdowns with Tom Palmer's finishes and Dean White's colors makes this book look great. The story takes place in several different locations, showing off their talents as well as adding some variety to the story. Throughout, you do get start to wonder what to expect. Mark Millar likes to keep us on edge and there is definitely the graphic and violent feel that gives a sense that anything goes.[/i]
        The Bad
I won't get into delay between this issue and the first interrupting the flow of the story. While I understand there is some build up and we can't have the entire story at once, I feel like there was too much teased in the first issue and we're not seeing those action. We do get some action but I just really got a feel that this issue was building up the story for later issues. This issue also suffered from a lack of Hit-Girl action.
        The Verdict
Maybe it was the gap between this issue and the first but I was expecting a little more. What's great is the addition of a team of people wanting to be heroes adds a new element that separates this story from the last series. Millar continues to tease us with the upcoming major confrontation that we caught a glimpse of in the first issue. The art and colors are great here and the different locations and settings adds a sense of reality to the city that Kick-Ass lives in. We are getting some build up and should get some big(er) action next issue.

Kick-Ass 2 continues (finally) and be prepared for some insanity. What starts out like a simple continuation of Dave's adventures with his new superhero friends turns into something else. It's from the mind of Mark Millar so we get what we expect...and then some.

      Plot:
        Kick-Ass II #1.
As everybody's favorite psychotic 11-year-old, Hit Girl, trains Kick-Ass to be...well, a bad-ass, Red Mist gathers a team of super-villains to take them down! It's super hero mayhem as only Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. can bring you!
        Kick-Ass II #2.
When Dave Lizewski put on his mask and became Kick-Ass, he never imagined things would go this far. Now Dave comes face-to-face with a world he helped bring about, as his dreams of a world of superheroes come true...but will those dreams turn to nightmares? Don't miss the comic book event of the year! Plus: Hit-Girl!
        Kick-Ass II #3.
Kick-Ass 2 continues (finally) and be prepared for some insanity. What starts out like a simple continuation of Dave's adventures with his new superhero friends turns into something else. It's from the mind of Mark Millar so we get what we expect...and then some.
        Kick-Ass II #4.
Red Mist takes on a new identity too vulgar for print and issues a command to all his super-bastards on Twitter to wreak havoc on New York. Meanwhile, the cops are cracking down on all costumed activity and tracing the secret identities of all the heroes. Could Dave get a knock on his door, and has enough spit hit the fan for Hit-Girl to pick up her sword again?
        Kick-Ass II #5.
For Dave Lizewski and the self-made superheroes of NYC, sh*t just got really real. The Red Mist, now known as the Mother****er, has assembled his own team of Toxic Mega-***** and they're striking the heroes where they're most vulnerable: Their loved ones. If Kick-Ass wants to put a stop to the supervillain rampage, he's going to need the help of Mindy McCready, the one and only Hit-Girl.
        Kick-Ass II #6.
The Mother****er and his team of Toxic Mega-***** are running rampant through New York City. With his life in shatters and his allies dead or locked away in prison, it falls to Kick-Ass to strike back against the supervillain uprising, with a little help from everyone's favorite pint-size death-dealer: Hit-Girl. The fight to save NYC from the Mother****er's masterplan beings here!
        Kick-Ass II #7.
The brutal extra-sized finale of the best comic ever! Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl square off against the Motherf*cker and Mother Russia! Can they put a stop to the rampaging Toxic Mega C*nts?

Hit Girl 01

Hit-Girl was the break-out character of Kick-Ass, the comic created by writer Mark Millar and artist John Romita Jr.
The potty-mouthed little girl-assassin was an even bigger hit in the subsequent movie adaptation, where she was played by Chloe Moretz. Now the character, whose age and actions have caused controversy in the past, gets her own comic book mini-series, by Millar and Romita.

Image

"When I was writing her in the first series, it was almost impossible not to have her dominate,” Millar tells The Hollywood Reporter. "There would be moments when I’d just let her take over and completely outshine even the main character so I realized she had it in her to handle a book of her own."

Originally another artist was slated to the draw the book as it was going to be a companion mini-series to the recently completed Kick-Ass 2, but Millar opted to have the book come out after and keep all the Kick-Ass universe with Romita.

The book takes place before the events in Kick-Ass 2, and places Hit-Girl, aka Mindy Macready, in more ordinary settings, such as school.

"Hit-Girl can eviscerate a drug deal, but how (does) Mindy react when girls at school tease her about her slightly lame clothes or complete lack of pop culture awareness? She’s grown up in a vacuum so seeing this slightly more vulnerable side to her opens a lot of interesting stuff among the beheadings,” says Millar.

The new mini-series will also show how she trains Kick-Ass, introduced Uncle Ralphie, who was one of the bad guys in Kick-Ass 2, and picks up Red Mist’s story after the original mini-series.

Millar, one of the big names in comics thanks to his work at Marvel, is in the midst of a very big year, with several creator-owned books including Supercrooks and The Secret Service hitting stands. But he admits that Hit-Girl and Kick-Ass are a breed apart.

"I’ve been very lucky in that all my new characters have caught on, but these two have really been the break-outs," he says. "I think the enthusiasm I have for them is contagious because we’ve generally outsold most of the big Marvel and DC titles since we started and I’ve literally seen strangers dressed as these guys in the street in Halloween. I’ve never enjoyed writing characters as much as I enjoy writing these two. Hit-Girl maybe a little more, since she’s more outrageous."

Image Image

Hit-Girl spins off into her own blood-soaked series by the sales-busting creative team of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. This story takes place between Kick-Ass volumes 1 and 2 as Mindy McCready tries to settle into life as a regular school-girl, but wants nothing more to be dispensing hot justice to the scum of New York City. Her mother and step-father think she’s doing her homework, but in reality she’s taken Kick-Ass on as her sidekick and training him up to punch, shoot and stab... just like Daddy would have wanted. A limited edition variant by Leandro Fernandez will be released for this issue

The little B@#$% is back!!, Reviewed by x_29 on June 27, 2012.
GOOD: We are finally diving deep into Hit-girl's mind and past. It is really nice to see her try to adjust to normal life and back into the superhero business at the same time. I always enjoy seeing kick ass and hit-girl together and their scenes of dialogue in this issue were great. Speaking of which, the dialogue in this issue is an improvement from some of the issues. This is probably due to the fact that this is a character study of the most popular character of the series and this is the first time we are learning about her emotions and thoughts. Because of that, this issue feels more focues and does not feel as crazy as typical Kick-Ass can ( yeah some kid gets shot in the head, but it is not as graphic as we have seen from this series.)

BAD: I just really do not like Romita Jr's art. Though the panel where Hit-girl was at Big-Daddy's grave was actually well-drawn.

VERDICT: Dug the first issue, hope it does not follow the faults Kick-Ass 2 had, go buy it if you are a fan :)

Crashing through plate glass unscathed? Child’s play. Jumping over moving cars? Whatevs. When Hit-Girl is your mentor, you’d better keep up. Kick-Ass is taking lessons in Advanced Bad Assery from Mindy McCready, and in return, he’s teaching her to survive middle school.

The question is, can she dispatch the Mean Girls without severing any arteries? Meanwhile, Red Mist gets serious about making his mark in the world of super crime
