Image Dargaud

Les Éditions Dargaud is a publisher of Franco-Belgian comics series, headquartered in the 18th arrondissement of Paris. It was founded in 1943 by Georges Dargaud.

Initially, Dargaud published novels for women. In 1948, they started Line, a "magazine for elegant women", as well as a French edition of the Belgian Tintin magazine.

In 1960, Dargaud bought the weekly magazine Pilote from René Goscinny, Albert Uderzo, and Jean-Michel Charlier, and the same year they published their first albums. Goscinny continued as editor of the magazine, and Charlier was album editor for a period.

In 1974, Dargaud wanted to diversify, and Pilote became a monthly magazine, and spawned another two monthly magazines. The new magazines were Lucky Luke Mensuel (a Western themed magazine around the series Lucky Luke) and Achille Talon Magazine (a humor based magazine around the series Achille Talon). However, both of them were unable to sustain a readership and folded within a year. The comics from these two magazines were put back into Pilote.

In 1988, Dargaud was acquired by Média-Participations.

Image Vertigo

Vertigo is an imprint Image of the American comic-book publisher DC Comics. Its books are marketed to a late-teen and adult audience, and may contain graphic violence, substance abuse, frank (but not explicit) depictions of sexuality, profanity, and controversial subjects. Although many of its releases are in the horror and fantasy genres, it also publishes works dealing with crime, social satire, speculative fiction, and biography. Each issue's cover carries the advisory label "Suggested for mature readers" (regardless of a specific issue's content). As of 2010[update], Karen Berger is the executive editor of the imprint, and has overseen it since its inception in 1993.

Vertigo comics series have won the comics industry's Eisner Award, including the Best Continuing Series of various years (The Sandman, Preacher, 100 Bullets and Fables). Several of its publications have been adapted to film, including Hellblazer, A History of Violence,[2] Stardust, and V for Vendetta.

In 2010, it was announced that Vertigo would become a strictly creator-owned imprint, with all titles that originated in the DC Universe, with the exception of flagship title Hellblazer, returning to the DC imprint. This includes characters related to Swamp Thing, The Sandman, Madame Xanadu, Black Orchid, The Books of Magic, House of Mystery, Sandman Mystery Theatre, The Haunted Tank, The Unknown Soldier, and Shade, the Changing Man. This had already been done with Animal Man, Doom Patrol, and The Human Target.

Image Markosia

Markosia was founded by Harry Markos in 2005. Markos has already published Harry Gallan's The Lexian Chronicles and the initial plan was to produce comic adaptations of books, like The Lexian Chronicles and G.P. Taylor's Shadowmancer. They secured the license to adapt Starship Troopers, leading to a broadening in the business plan. This would further expand when Markosia brought Chuck Satterlee on board as Director of Operations.

Satterlee moved over from Speakeasy Comics after their troubles in 2006 and he assisted in bringing over a number of titles with him, giving Markosia a range of original comic titles. These included The Hunger by creators Jose Torres and Chris Dibari and Chimaera Studios's with their 8 titles.

In 2007 Markosia re-branded themselves for the comics Direct Market by merging with AAM (Associated Arts and Media) to form AAM Markosia.

In 2008 the company signed a number of properties such as The Boy Who Made Silence, Ritual, N-Guard, Serpent Wars and Eagle Award nominated anthology title Eleventh Hour.

Image Archaia Studios Press

Archaia Entertainment, LLC is an American comic book publishing company established by Mark Smylie in 2002.

Mark Smylie formed the company as a home for his comic Artesia because the publisher, Sirius Entertainment, wanted to print the third series in black and white. He quickly realised he might as well publish other titles and early titles included Mouse Guard, Robotika and The Lone and Level Sands.

In March 2007 ASP hired Joseph Illidge, formerly at Milestone Comics, and announced a dozen new titles. Revere joined from Alias Comics, after they moved to an all-Christian line-up, and ASP will publish the trade paperback. Starkweather (based on a story by Piers Anthony) moved over from Arcana Studios for better "product positioning".

Pauline Benney joined as Art Director in late 2007 after a decade working in the same position at White Wolf, Inc.

In May 2008 Aki Liao, ASP's co-publisher, decided to depart from the company for personal reasons. This started an ongoing commitment to make ASP capable of releasing new titles on time and according to schedule retailers and fans would like to see.

Archaia was bought by Kunoichi in October 2008
