Lucky Patcher itself requires root, and this requires both root and Lucky Patcher.
How could it possibly work for you?

Yeah it worked for me too without root and lp, I think it has something to do with the app being removed from the playstore.

LP has some limited functionality w/o root.

You're not actually "rebuilding" the app at all.. I think you're just not interpreting the instructions in the uploader's post the way they were meant to be understood. What is actually meant is that you just have to choose the option within LP that's called "rebuild and install" or something along those lines.. You're not actually rebuilding anything... You're just choosing that option because it let's you choose to install the apk from there. It's really just a 1 step type of procedure, really.
