Question, usually the app doesn't place any files under SDCard/Android/obb..What are these extra files and, are they needed? Thanks for the info.

obb folder required..also on local sdcard will be stored maps for offline use.

Got it! I know the on the local sdcard root there will be a folder created for storing offline maps, I have that now with my older v8.13 version. But I have nothing inside Android/obb. I guess newer version addeded that.

I see no reason to be so excited regarding his app. It is lousy POS app which cannot find major addresses in my area; not even my house sitting there for the last 25 years.
Google map (and Sygic) are the only decent maps. Everything else (OsmAnd, Maps.Me, Here) are joke.

Let me break this down:

For the most part this app works great for me and I have used it for long time. It's free and I can download just about any map of any region and country in the world for offline navigation. It uses standard maps from OpenMAPS. We can argue that they are not the prettiest or maybe even the best, but I have never failed to find what I am looking for and they are constantly updated. Maybe you live in a very particular area.

As for Goggle Maps, one needs data access constantly because it only allows for temporary downloads of small areas for offline use.. great for a city neighborhood's but impossible for an out-of-town road or cross-country trip.

And finally as far as Sygic goes, I have never successfully managed to install it or get it to work (as lots of others people as well reading from the posts on the app), but Ill assume is great since most reviews (for those who get it working) are very positive.

I travel to Central America frequently, Waze was the only working option for Costa Rica just a couple of years ago (but not really offline as it requires a data feed for network connection!). Maps.ME has taken Waze's place and works great - no data required, just an initial download - the entire country is about 50 MB! Sweet

Right on.. had the same experience with Waze, despite that for driving is really a great app! Maps.ME is still the best overall offline navigator. I can download a while country worth of maps with street level detail:)
