Overview: A double Edo Manga issue. Two stories by the popular Manga Artist Santo Kyoden and published in 1789.
The first is The Girl Who Became a Taoist Immortal. It is a humorous and sarcastic story dealing with romance and heartbreak during a gathering of Taoist Immortals.
The second is Lord Fudo of Three River Island, Edo. It imagines the Buddhist deity Fudo, Lord of Light, living as an "average guy" in Edo city. He is struggling to make ends meet and to find love.
These early Manga were popular with common people and members of the Samurai class during the 18th and 19th centuries.
