Instruction:
1. Download the apk
2. Make a titanium backup of your Gmail App first.
3. If you are have your Gmail app installed in Data/App, Delete them first, if not skip this step. You won't lost your Gmail data, dont worry
4. Copy the Gmail.apk using any root explorer to System/App.
5. Reboot.
6. Launch the Gmail app, and your Gmail data will be still there.

^Last I heard the 4.2 KLP rumors have been squashed. Either way this GMail update is kind of lame.

I did it like you sayd, deleted gmail from data/app, copyed the gmail 4.2 to system app, after the reboot the gmail is not there, and doesn't let me install.

use root explorer and you will see it. 4.2 working fine so far.
What I did: backup with titanium backup, move gmail 4.2 on "system/app" with root explorer, remove default gmail from "system/app", reboot the phone, the gmail dissapear from aplication list, go to "system/app" click on it and select install it.

I said the update was kind of lame. Meaning the changes are nothing to rave about. Pinch zoom and swipe to delete/archive?

Also just because AP 'Leaked' it doesn't automatically make it great.

I'm sure some people want and have been waiting for the update, I wasn't bashing them or the uploader. It is a nice release I was just saying the actual update is nothing to write home about.....unless you write for AndroidAndMe that is.
