Using SMS on a Windows Mobile device can be annoying because the messages aren't threaded. This is a feature that we've hoped Microsoft would have included by now, but they haven't. VITO Technology has recently released a solution for those of us that crave IM-like SMS conversations as found in other operating systems. Is SMS-Chat just a novelty, or does it make SMS much more usable? Read on to see!

The hot factor for this application is that it threads the messages together. It is not as sophisticated as other applications that thread messages such as Extreme Text on the Motorola Q, however SMS-Chat works with the operating system rather than the make of phone, so it has more usability despite being a less sophisticated product. There is certainly room for development as you'll see soon.

The new version of SMS-Chat supports black skin in HTC touch style. Other minor changes include:
The notification window disappears when you tap the screen outside it.
When clicking the cross icon the notification closes and message shows as unread in chat.
Quick scroll has appeared for long chats.
Clicking the name in the chat opens a contact details
It is possible to minimize the application right from the chat.
Dates in chats are shown the same way as in the WM system

I used this application for ahilte before updating my mogul to windows 6.1 which combines sms chat and the old text msg functions

i've tried the older version and it would show me text from the wrong person. something with the chat gets corrupt. anyone experiece this and know if this one does the same? thanks!

first, this was already released (maybe on ppcwarez2 ?)

second, I've expereinced the same problem as you mentioned, the older version is better but the is one extra that is worth the update - the "insert contact" option.

i have a problem with this version.. it consumes a lot of batery, comparing with the older versions.. i´m using a htc tytn, does anyone had notice this problem?

Where can i find skins for this?

I just changed the skin to "grey" this gives you a white background, better for viewing text..

This application would be soo much better with the ability (official or not) to skin it. It looks horrid at the moment. Although I love it for the SMS popup though. Reminds me of the SMS Popup application on the G1 (Android)

It doesn't work for me on W6, it doesn't send SMS as an answer to the ones I receive.

after uninstallig vito sms chat all my msgs in my inbox are deleted. what should i do

It works for me after all, just really press the 'send' button, not just quick tap it.

Try to reinstall and see if they appear (maybe there's an unexpected path to your messages)? I´ve unstalled this app, but the messages were still there. Have you tried finding them with your standard sms-app?
