7.0" CAR GPS MP4 SpeedCam 3D NAV Bluetooth - can be seen @ http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-7-0-CAR-G ... 45fb693ff8

Rom Version: V.912C.210000.110707.128M
App Version: V1.4 ABF-U120-HD-EN-CE6.0
System ID: 0018E420-09000000-00000000-00000001

I purchased this GPS about 1 month ago off Ebay and so far i have "installed", configured and successfully run; TomTom, MemoryMap, TwoNav, BeelineGPS, VisualGPS and MapmyIndia.

Since trying to get Garmin XT to run the device is now experiencing the following issues:

The backlight turns off (off not dims) after 5 minutes, even if an app is running (except Beeline)
Pressing the ON button for 2-3 seconds no longer displays the Sleep/Shutdown option
To shut down i have to hold the ON button for 10 seconds

At first i thought that some files had been deleted from Residentflash, because i was sure that originally there were the gpspara*.bin files. But i contacted someone through Ebay who said that in their Residentflash folder there were no files at all! But i'm still not convinced. If this is true, that there are no gpspara*.bin files in Residentflash then perhaps it's a registry issue. The problem here is that i have been a bit slack with this GPS and didn't make a backup of the registry, and to make matters worse i have change a few power and backlight settings in an attempt to stop the backlight from turning off.
I have had one small success though; When this problem started, one problem was that while connected with Mobile Device Center the GPS would switch off after 5 minutes, and now it only dims after 5 minutes but stays on. As i said a small success.

So ladies and gentlefolk of the forum, this is the point where i appeal for your help and wisdom to try and get my poor GPS to run for more than 5 minutes at a time!!

If any member who has the same GPS or has experience can offer any help or advice on the following points i would be extremely grateful :-)

1 - On this specific model does Residentflash contain any files or not?

2 - Do the following Registry entries look correct (some entries may have changed in my effort to solve the problem)

I included the last key as it shows activity event. As far as i understand the backlight is "kept" on by having a routine trick WinCE in beleiving some user action has just taken place, and therefore overides the WinCE backlight setting

3 - In Residentflash2 there is a file "PowerDown.exe". Would this be the Sleep/Shutdown menu?, and if it is, i can't get it to run! There is also "setting_wince.exe" which is a sleep/shutdown menu, but not the one used before?!?!

4 - I have managed to get Garmin XT to start, but i cannot get to the "About" page to read the device ID. Does anyone know whether this ID is generated within Garmin or does it just read the number from the device?

5 - Is there any way to force a program to scale its GUI; MemoryMap produces a nice big map but the buttons are the same scale as CE titlebar/menu bars/taskbar...too bloody small!!

6 - There is no "wceload.exe" so to "install" i am using an emulator and then copying the files over to SDMMC. Run the app, and then correct any registry entries. Is there any way to install a CAB file without wceload.exe?. I've tried to copy it from another GPS i have, but it won't let me!

Ok, that's enough for now. Please feel free to comment, suggest or help with any or all of the issues. Especially the shutting down!! Many thanks for reading

Since i altered the main "PowerOnState" setting it's almost a brick now!! or a very crap photo viewer;
It boots and displays the splash screen for 5 seconds, then switches off.

So as i have nothing to lose now, does anyone have any knowledge about Hard flashing using a serial cable??

Hi,

I have the same device as you and I have a similar issue in that it goes into suspend even when on external power. This happens whaterver run state it is in ie startup desktop, in WinCE or running the GPS.
Control Panel power properties doe not have "Enable suspend while on external power" selected.
If I look at the ResidentFkash using explorer then I see no files. Looking at Storage properties in comtrol panel it shows it to have 4 partitions. The largest Part00 uses a file system of type binfs. The others use exfat the same as the memory card.
Check out [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\FlashDisk]
If I connect with the USB set to "Active Sync" I see nothing and Mobile device Center only briefly shows it as connecting and then disconnects although the device still shows in explorer.
With USB set to "Mass Storage" I only see the memory card.

How did you edit the registry. I installed regedit on the memory card but this only allows me to see the setting as it doesn't pop up the keyboard when I try an edit.

did you try to run WinCE directly over passing the skin similar to what described in this post

Hi jc03ice,

I believe I have the exact same (Made in Chine) GPS hardware as you have (all my registry keys correspond to your devices') and I also have the same suspend problem. My GPS suspends after 10 minutes despite all suspend setting being disabled and set correctly and the GPS device connected on external power. This is very furstrating as one does not want to power on the device every 10 minutes while driving :( !

Have you been able to resolve the suspend problem on your device?

I will post solution if I find one, I bought my GPS on the internet and will not get my money back so I need to get this fixed.

Will keep you posted.

Hi,

I have added / changed everything I can find for Power registry entries for both Power Manager and GWES but still it suspends after 10 mins.

Does anyone have a registry dump of a similar device that doesn't suspend when on external power?

Does this help?
