Hi, I have jailbroken iphone 4 with 4.1, Greenp0ison. I have quite many apps. Can I just update to 4.2.1 and than run jailbreak for it, and keep my existing apps? Or maybe I should restore from back up after jailbreak is done?

Hi,

Updated my iPad 3.2.1 to 4.2.1 and used Greenpois0n.

Had to try a few times to get the timing right on the button push / hold.

Note : Windows 7 PC, even running in compatibility mode / administrator was causing issues, so did it on a PC running XP and it worked without issue.

ALSO : If you are running apps. that have not been purchased via iTunes, do not forget to add hackulous source in Cydia so that you can install from your backup, otherwise the restore will not load the apps.

If you update you loose all your apps. But you can safely restore them after jailbreaking and installing appsync form cydia.

I am also having this problem. The Cydia icon is there but won't install any sources.

@Hook/\hzorr: you will lose everything but if you have an itunes backup you can restore it after you jailbreak and install appsync for 4.2.1
@MrMe: saw the same issue on my friend's iPhone 4. I have restarted the phone and reopened cydia and all went smooth. Have you tried restarting the iphone ?

I thought upgrades on firmware didn't delete any thing.. Music wise just jailbreak stuff..

Just found the solution for this. :)

1. Hold the Power and Home button together for 10-15 seconds. Let go of both.
2. Just hold the Power button for a few seconds to see the Apple logo.

Well, let me rephrase :)
You loose al your data from your device because the update formats it but you are able to restore it :)

I tried powering off and restarting but still Cydia is not working. Thanks for the reply though.
