Sometimes i download an ebook (here and elsewhere) and it has a number near the name like the ones in the picture.

I wonder what that number means or from where it got downloaded. Anybody knows?

thanks

I can't believe no one answered you.

The numbers are Calibre index numbers, i.e. book number 1000, 1001, etc.
The items on the left of your screenshot are also from Calibre. The cover image, the metadata, and the actual ebook.

Thank you very much! i've been looking at those numbers for years without knowing what they were..

so i guess every calibre user has a different number per book? ie i cannot search X book by the number right?

thanks again for the answer made my week! :D :D

"i guess every calibre user has a different number per book?"

Yes, because it all has to do with the order in which a book was added to that particular Calibre library.

And my apologies, I should have called them "record numbers" or "file numbers" to be more accurate because, as I pointed out, each book has its own file folder of related items.

Glad I could help! :)
