What it is about???

It tells the story of the legalization and ensuing rise of the porn industry in New York City beginning in the 1970s. Themes explored include the violence of the drug epidemic and the resulting real-estate booms and busts that coincided with the change. The show's title is derived from the nickname for 42nd Street between Seventh Avenue and Eighth Avenue.
In the first season, twin brothers Vincent and Frankie Martino become fronts for the Mafia while operating out of Times Square, which is also the home of "Candy," a sex worker who turns to the now-legal emerging porn industry. The first season takes place between 1971 and 1972
While I've downloaded a few episodes of the second season which just started, I'm waiting to get a few more episodes downloaded so I can do some serious binge watching ;)
The first season was great. The writing and acting is excellent. I look forward to watching season 2

lol. thanks for giving a great explaination.

I dont know why I didnt respond. Probably because it's easy to figure it out yourself.

Though I cant say I completely liked you response because you focus on an aspect I cant say I really like in the show.

I'd say something like this.

It's about New York in 70's. In that era in history. How life was. Corruption all around. Pimps, Hookers, Mobsters, Poor people making a living. With an all-star Cast. Including Big time James Franco, and Maggie Gyllanhall.

I cant agree with your viewership guidelines. One of the Main reasons I posted this fresh post is that I can't believe they just took it out and we're in season. Meaning you should watch it with the rest of us like a series its actually intended. Week by week. I cant really totally agree with binge watchers. I can understand it. But even that should have a rule. When I do it. I give a period between seasons and typically watch one episode per day.

Yea I really liked the first season and the high quality of this show. I wasn't going to watch it because I am sick and tired of this generation exploiting porn and sex scenes in current series. But I'm a huge fan of James Franco and caught the show by accident. Glanced at a few episodes and was hooked. It is so well made. High quality and a series of this generation. We probably won't watch another one this good. Which is why I'm so excited that they took out another season. It has a lot of good actors I like. Method Man. I like and find funny that they use a James Franco as a twin. Im not a big fan of Maggie but in this she is quite good. I really hate new yorks aspect and glamourisation of it and feel sorry for the people.

To each their own...
I watch way too many series, and I much prefer to focus on only a couple at a time.
Now, I usually don't watch more than one or two episodes (rarely) a day... but I do like to watch multiple days in a row.
Once a week for a show like this one just doesn't cut it for me. I like to get in the mood/spirit of the show, and stay there.
And as I get older and my memory is not like it used to be, I feel like I can catch more of what's going on by viewing episodes faster than once a week ;)
It sucks to get old

But yeah... A HIGH QUALITY SHOW
Sure, some of the subject matter might offend some people, but as you say, the production quality, the actors, the script...
It's a keeper and I was glad it was renewed for the second season. There is still a lot of the story to tell, and I would have been pissed if it had only lasted one season.

I think its meant for it to be like that for you to go through the week contemplating the episode and in anticipation.

Since we are in season you have no choice but to wait a week or wait for it to end and then binge but I wouldnt recommend it.

As they say binge is bad.

Watching shows is more of a feeling than a memory I think. Anyway, there are ways to improve your health and memory. You should practice this.

Yea it offended me in the previews. Glamouring Porn up. So I had boycotted it but like I said. Once I caught several episodes channel surfing. I was hooked. It wasnt totally about that as they had advertise. It had more of a story and a lot of different characters they didnt highlight.

I too was glad because so many shows are axed these days and some really good ones arent even continued even if it goes well. I wouldnt had been pissed it been just a one season show because it was damn good and it sort had a closure but I am very glad it did bringing all the actors back even if its not as good because it's still has a lot of quality and gives you something to think about. There's so many shows that I really like that have been cancelled that I'm really pissed about.
For example The exorcist, scream queens, chance...

Ahhh... another Chance Fan
I loved that show
It was a tad on the weird side, but a fun show

The casting was brilliant with Hugh Laurie as Chance and Ethan Suplee as Darius
The relationship between those two made the show
It was also another high quality production with excellent writing

Weird. You mean normal.

Welcome to my world. Viglante, hot babes, fking people up.
I really wish it wouldve had multi-seasons like house. I actually dont like house and cant stand Hugh Laurie but in this show he made me a fan. He was awesome along with the show. I cant even count the number of characters I liked in this series. Probably the entire series. I probably didnt like just a few characters. But most I liked. D is probably one of my favorite characters of all-time, the babacious Mol, Dont tell anyone but I had a real thing for the cutesie Nicole!, I sort of liked Clayton, She just couldnt understand that to get stuff done you need to get your hands dirty.I had a blast watching Hynes but the more I rewatched the more I actually respected the character and I really liked the writing on him for instances they keep him involved through and through and even make a tribute to him while as so many characters in other series are just one and done, Believe it or not I really like Ryan Winter; Another actor I really didnt like but in this show he rocked. He just was sort of the perfect actor for the role. Yea he was a serial killer of women but he had this natural out there kinda vibe which I really liked. The only thing I didnt like about him was his ending. It was kinda a cheap if you ask me for such a bad ass character and important one. He shouldve had a more fought struggle to the end., and lastly yes Chance. Though I never really liked the actor. He was really good at this. I wanted to boycott this so bad based on him but the show is so easily addicting. Saw about two episodes and I was hooked. I think he played this perfect. He shouldve won several awards. Nothing more couldve been asked of him. He made me a fan by his impressive performance. Everything your supposed to feel and think he played it well. Through and through every episode he played it well and I really liked that Hugh took a huge gamble on this in producing it and being so involved. Was really impressed by that. Though the seasons each had closure. It was so much fun I really wouldve liked several more seasons.

You had me going for a minute there spiritboy... I thought you were saying that another network had picked up Chance for a third season...

But then I remembered that this was a thread about Deuce, which I already knew had a season left :D

Threesome...
Unlike you, I've always been a big fan of Hugh Laurie. I think he is a great actor. I've seen him playing a lot of different roles, and he was stunning as Dr. Chance. But yeah, D was my favorite... how could he not be :D

Hahahahaha. I thought same thing. So when you said that it even made me feel even more weird. HAHAHHAhahhaaha.

Though they should've. The show kicks ass.

I didn't so its good to hear. The new season looks pretty good. Such a heavy casted series is hard to keep up. I wonder how they keep the actors. I guess it helps the series is a few episodes short.

Deuce is so good it should have multiple seasons but fitting it should end in 2 not thrice.

I am not. He just looks weird to me. Like some sort of alien or nerd. But I remember giving house a "chance" once and I was impressed how it was written better than I thought. I had grouped it together as a ER series about medical. It has a couple of actors I like and Olivia Wilde is one fine fox no doubt about that.
I've also seen Laurie around in other films but the characters he plays are usually not my type which is why I axe him as an actor. Dr. Chance is the first time I've seen him play such a character and probably a rare first role for him but he played it well showing he is a good actor. I know he is popular and girls like him. But I never saw it till he did Chance. He looks different than his typical self. Almost like a different person and the way he plays Chance is like a Real Doctor with a real inner struggle conflict, yet very serious with no humor. Very real Edgy. It is well played. Yea I'm really pissed they axed it. It was well entertaining and I like that it's based on a Novel. Have you read it? There are some critic but despite it all I think the show is well made and cant complain. As you know by now I admire a lot of them especially the ladies. When Chance perk interest with Mol I noticed he had good taste. I also liked that though Mol is extremely fine they do pick an actress of age and not just a young babe which they usually do. The dynamics between him and his daughter is also well appreciated as I dont see many shows that touch upon that in a deep level like they do here all the while being Mature. One of the things I couldnt get enough off and wish it had extended more in more seasons was D's relation with Nicole. It was strange but a lot of fun. It was definitely interesting. I kept hoping it evolved more but all of a sudden they dropped that angle.

Also I really like how both seasons ended and think they ended perfect with real closure and a real sense of an ending. Very mature but also very perfect. Am going to really miss this one.

The did make sure each season ended in away that would at least satisfy since they had no clue when they finished filming both seasons whether it was going to be the last or not.
Like many "mature" not for the masses shows, it just didn't have a big enough audience to justify continuing it, which is too bad

I also liked D's relation with Nicole... but then again, I liked most of the relationships on the show, and that's what made it interesting.

And no, I never read the novel... I might just have to now ;)

Are than any other new shows worth talking about?

Actually they did. Chance was automatically booked for two seasons. But didn't have they ratings they hoped so they ended at that. Strange to say cancel since they completed their seasons and just discontinued it. Cancelled I think of something that they cancelled in the middle of the show or had plans for many more seasons but then they cancelled it.
Or like in Charlie Sheens Case a sex scandal and just changed the name of the show.

"Mature" makes me think of Golden Girls but Golden Girls was hugely popular and though I'm young. I cant watch that show without laughing my lungs off.
I think it wasn't big because it was good. Good shows now dont have a huge audience. When I glance at the popular shows( Games of Fags), movies( 50 shades of shit), music (Kanye I belong in Africa) nowadays I barf. Because the masses have a mush of zombie instead of a brain. Most on drugs, liquor, pills, screwing anything that moves without decency. Why watch horror when I can just watch the news at 5 with a new segment every other hour about any corner shit going down. I gotta walk with a gun in my hand hoping someone wont jump out of the woods and rob me, mug me, or rape me. It's like when I see a jigsaw film its tame because the shit that's going off the screen is real bloody murder.

I looked up this thread and a I had thought I added a good list of shows and was going to add some more now. But didnt and ain't going to in the spirit of keeping focus one show at a time. So lets go back to drugs, hoes, and corrupt cops.

I like how the show shows you how hard and messed up is running a bar. I had thought about buying one in a college campus so I can go through all the sororities. It was cheap but the owner explained to me that these students didnt have a dime to their name couldve just bought them off. Or the porn industry is nothing on what they show on camera. Pimps, baseheads, and desperate single mothers willing to do anything for a dime or cheap fame. Around this time if I recall they even had underage girls. All mobbed controlled.
I know this show is from back in the days but have things really changed? Has it gotten better or worst?
