A few authors I've truly enjoyed:

C.S. Lewis, not only for his books on Narnia, but also his works on Christian apologetics.
Larry Correia, the Monster Hunter series is awesome, but I think I enjoy his Grimnoir Trilogy even more.
Brandon Sanderson, the Reckoners Trilogy was pretty epic, an interesting interpretation of the superhero genre.
Jonathan Maberry, the Benny Imura Trilogy was great, and presented the zombie genre in a unique way. I loved it, but I can also understand why there are a lot of detractors. That being said, the Joe Ledger series is quite entertaining as well.
Barry Eisler, all his books are a good read. Seems to be extremely well-researched. Dark stories for the most part, but with well-developed characters that you can't help but get behind.

The Heart's Invisible Furies by John Boyne

It's both incredibly sad and funny. I really recommend it.
