I'd recommend the Accursed Kings series of novels by Maurice Druon if you're into history. It's the inspiration for Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones), and like that series it's brilliant, bloody, and utterly fascinating.

I found Trust Me, I'm Lying: Confessions of a Media Manipulator by Ryan Holiday to be an interesting peek at how companies intentionally create controversy to generate free media exposure. The recent Apple debacle with their $999 aluminum monitor stand is almost certainly an example of this kind of manipulation of the media.

Another book that I found really useful was Never Split the Difference: Negotiating As If Your Life Depended On It by Chris Voss. Voss is a former FBI hostage negotiator who developed and refined a number of negotiation methods while in the field, which he explains in the book. Since anyone who deals with other people does some form of negotiation, whether it's getting the kids to do their homework or trying to get a raise at work or just getting your neighbor to turn down their music at midnight, it's a handy book to read.

Here's a riddle for you: Two mothers and two daughters went shopping. Each bought only one item. Yet, when they returned, they only had three items. How is this possible?

last night, I was reading "One Hundred Years of Solitude," it took me a while to get into the book but once i was in the flow i couldn't put the book down. It has been on my to-read list for about 4 years and now that i am reading it, i realized how much i have missed. If you haven't read it. i would highly recommend it. Once you become used to Garcia's long a$$ prose... things become quite vivid.

I read mostly Romance novels with a good touch of erotica. I do not know what your preferred genre of book is but I would like to recommend Cora Reilly's Mafia series Born In Blood and Camorra Chronicles. I could recommend a movie too but lately I have not been feeling up to any movie.
