How can I change a specific color in an image to another color?

For example, in the mobilism banner, how can I change everything that is black to yellow? (It's just an example, it's probably horrible.)

Can it be done with paint.net?

Thanks.

Since the mobilism banner we have is a 'flat' (and probably resized) image, pixels on the edges of shapes and colors are blended. So when we fill the black area with yellow using the paint bucket, it will look something like this.

    Image

Like crap. :(

(The GIMP and Photoshop do have a 'Select by color' option, it won't help much.)

There are other better ways ..

Go to: Adjustments » Levels...

    Image
(Disable the Blue and drag the right slider - Output all the way up)

Hmm, now the blue letters turned to white as it will change all colors at the same time. How unfortunate .. :-|

Well, take a look in the Adjustments menu, and play around a bit with Hue / Saturation... and Levels...

But the very best way would be to pm the creator and ask him for the original (layered) image. ;)

How to color an egg in Paint.NET?

(For the Easter egg rally ..)

Download the image of the egg to your computer.

      Image
      (Right click, Save Image ...)

    Open the image in Paint.NET

    Add a new layer.

      Image

Now, in layer 2, we can paint or paste (keep canvas size while pasting) anything we like .. (but try to remember the egg shape ;) )

When we're done in layer "Layer 2", go back to layer "Background" and choose the tool : Image Magic Wand! Image

In layer "Background", with the magic wand click anywhere outside the egg (top left/top right ..)

      Image
(Everything outside the egg will be selected)

Go back to layer "Layer 2", and press Ctrl-X (or Delete).

Disable layer "Background" .. (or delete it) since we have no need for it anymore.

      Image

Now go to File » Save As... And save the file as a .PNG

      - Bit depth = Autodetect and FLATTEN!

Upload your egg to an imagehost.

    Code: Select allhttp://imgur.com/
    http://images.mobilism.org

And paste the url between img tags in the contest.

      Image Image

    And we're done .. :D

How to get RGB values of any area or pixel in an image in Paint.NET?

    Open an image in Paint.NET.

Select the Color Picker tool. Image

With the Color Picker tool, click on the area or pixel of the image where you want the RGB values from.

(The color of the pixel under the cursor will be installed to the Primary color (Left Mouse button) or the Secondary color (Right Mouse button)).

In the Colors window, Click "More >>"

      Image
(Toggle the Colors window on/off with F8.)

Your color's RGB values can be read in the top left of the expanded Colors window. :)

      Image

    And that's it .. :D
