I don't know if this is the right place to post this but as miss p1nky deleted my unwarranted discsion in the request section I thought I would post here.
So new matthew reilly Book came out today,
On the US amazon page the price was this Kindle $17.95 Hardcover $17.70

Ok the uk page it was this.Kindle Edition £13.99 Hardcover £14.00

So whats the deal ?? is this a first ??? i have not seen this before and live buying kindle books know we get them cheaper than hard covers which cost a lot to make.
are we now being ripped off or are publishers catching up to the ebook world ??

Also anyone know a cheaper place to ligit buy ebooks ????

I will let others reply with their opinions about the price of books, I only wanted to point out that yes, this is the correct place for discussions. Requests is for requests (and each bump counts), Discussion to discuss

I don’t know about equal pricing regarding hard copies but I’ve definitely noticed the price gap getting smaller each year.
It’s one of the main reasons that I refuse to pay for ebooks, if I pay money then I want to actually hold something in my hands.
I would rather sit by the fire with a nice new book rather than a Kindle or whatever, but finances don’t allow it.

The unfair pricing of ebooks is a big problem for me. Thanks to BookBub and eReaderIQ I've managed to score some really good deals, but it's only a drop in the ocean that is my reading addiction. :)

Another aspect of ebook purchases is that often you don't purchase, you obtain a limited license (non transferable - can't sell it or pass it on, can't violate geo-restrictions, maybe time limited).

I worked almost 30 years in the printing industry and so I know how much time and work from many different people is involved, in bringing some text into a hardcopy book. For this reason alone I will never understand how the publishing industry justifies same (or almost same) prices for paper copies to ebooks.
Paper is a huge factor of costs these days also, but when you look at ebook prices and compare them to hardcopy prices you wouldn‘t know!

I've noticed the higher prices too. I can understand an author charging $5-7 instead of $3... But $15? No.

Well if you consider the fact that they need to make money on the 1.5% of ebooks that actually get bought and paid for to make up for the fact that 98.5% of readers are using free copies like the ones we get here it makes sense to charge as much as they can get for the 1.5%

What really pisses me off is when you buy an ebook you don’t actually own it. According to the fine print anyway, nor should it be shared.
Can you imagine going to buy a pint of milk and been told not to share it with anyone.

No idea how they can justify this. I realise the hardbacks on offer but even so.
