Mister Pip
Winner of the Commonwealth Writers' Prize 2007 Winner of the Montana Medal for Fiction 2007 Shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize 2007 Winner of the Kiriyama Writers' Prize 2008 Lloyd Jones' new novel is set mainly in a small village on Bougainville, a country torn apart by civil war. Matilda attends the school set up by Mr Watts, the only white man on the island. By his own admission he's not much of a teacher and proceeds to educate the children by reading them Great Expectations. Matilda falls in love with the novel, strongly identifying with Pip. The promise of the next chapter is what keeps her going; Pip's story protects her from the horror of what is happening around her - helicopters menacing the skies above the village and rebel raids on the ground. When the rebels visit the village searching for any remaining men to join their cause, they discover the name Pip written in the sand and instigate a search for him. When Pip can't be found the soldiers destroy the book. Mr Watts then encourages the children to retell the story from their memories. Then when the rebels invade the village, the teacher tells them a story which lasts seven nights, about a boy named Pip, and a convict . . .

Hand Me Down World:
A woman washes ashore in Sicily. She has come from north Africa to find her son, taken from her when he was just days old by his father and stolen away to Berlin. With nothing but her maid's uniform and a knife stashed in a plastic bag, she relies on strangers— some generous, some exploiting—to guide her passage north. These strangers tell of their encounters with a quiet, mysterious woman in a blue coat—each account a different view of the truth, a different truth. And slowly these fragments of a life piece together to create a spellbinding story of the courage of a mother and the versions of truth we create to accommodate our lives. Haunting and beautiful, Hand Me Down World is simply unforgettable.

The Book of Fame:
The Book of Fame is a lyrical semi-fictional account of the 1905 All Black rugby tour of Europe - a tour that shaped New Zealand's identity, from which the players returned to find themselves accorded almost god-like status. This remarkable, award-winning novel is both a tribute to some of the world's first sporting celebrities and an investigation into the curious workings of fame. Not just a book for lovers of sport, The Book of Fame is essentially a story about friendship and loyalty, and about a group of astonishing young men at the peak of their abilities.

The Man in the Shed: Stories
From the author of Mister Pip, winner of the Commonwealth Writers' Prize for Best Book and finalist for the Man Booker Prize, comes a collection written with Lloyd Jones's trademark precision and imaginative reach. A boy watches his mother hooked and reeled ashore by a fisherman. A couple give up their seats on a bus for lovers soon to be parted. A husband enters a world imagined by his wife and pretends to be the man she loves. Lloyd Jones's "The Man in the Shed" is a haunting collection of stories about family and longing. These extraordinary tales take conventional family life and tilt it sideways, delivering a memorable blend of the suburban and the surreal.

Paint Your Wife:
Once, long ago when the men were away at the war, Alma began painting portraits of the women of the town in lieu of payment for catching all the rats. His special favorite was Alice, who returned his attentions. Her husband George came home from the war, and set out to prove his love and reclaim his wife by shifting a hill with a wheelbarrow to improve the view. Now, decades later, Alma's 'in lieu of' payment is revived so that an abandoned mother living in a depressed town can make her way. For the other townspeople looking to escape various corners of despair, drawing classes provide the answer. For when you draw, the only thing that matters is what lies before you.

Mr Cassini:
Packed with literary allusion, this circuitous story of strange travels where past and present merge and dreams threaten to dominate reality is an atypical look at a journey from abuse to personal redemption. This Welsh Arabian Nights takes the reader on a trip grounded in the history and literature of Wales, exploring the painful yet humorous reality and dreams of Duxie and Ollie as they encounter famous Welsh heroes and must learn to contend with the terrifying Mr. Cassini himself.

Mr Vogel:
The quirky exploits of Mr. Vogel, a strange, solitary man who leaves his car lights on so that people will knock on his door, is documented in this warm-hearted novel about a man's dreams for love, friendship, and freedom. Mr. Vogel's life unexpectedly changes when an unorthodox competition wins him a fortune of money, a beautiful house, a quaint little croft, and a pagoda. Odd circumstances then compel him to embark upon a quixotic walking tour of Wales, and he soon finds himself traveling backward in time, visiting his childhood and even observing the development of his country's history and literature. At the core of this humorous and gentle tale is a rumination on the importance of hope.

Here at the End of the World We Learn to Dance:
In tango, there are no wrong turns. But every dance begins with a backward step.
This is where Louise and Schmidt's story begins, with a backward step, when they meet in a small town in New Zealand during World War I. When locals are stirred to violence against Schmidt for his German name, he and Louise take refuge in a remote cave overlooking the ocean. There, humming Argentinian songs into her ear, he teaches her the intimate rhythms of the tango-the dance that will bind them forever.
Years later, in her restaurant in Wellington, Rosa, Schmidt's granddaughter, tells Lionel the tale of her grandfather's affair with Louise. And she teaches him to dance.

Biografi:
When Biografi was first published, it was met first with enormous critical acclaim – only to become the centre of a heated controversy. Was it fact or fiction? Had Lloyd Jones concocted his story of life in the new Albania? Or was it travel literature as its publishers insisted? Equal parts travelogue, political reportage and bizarre mystery novel, Lloyd Jones crosses Albania as it reinvents itself - a volatile, surreal wonderland where nothing is quite as it seems.

My First Colouring Book:
Love, angels, addiction and death; they're all here in My First Colouring Book, a collection of short stories from award-winning novelist Lloyd Jones. Themed on all the colours of the rainbow - and a few extra - these stories and essays paint a picture of criss-crossing lives. They are spoken by an unexpected variety of voices: a young girl has adventures in the night, a surgeion becomes a shepherd; a middle-aged man seeks love for the last time. And his travel essays, sent from the compass points of his home country, Wales, are not to be missed.

See How They Run: (New Stories from the Mabinogion)
Small-minded academic Dr Llwyd Mcnamara has a grant to research Wales' biggest here, rugby star Dylan Manawydan Jones - Big M. But as he plays with USB sticks in his office, the gods have other plans… Lloyd Jones retells this Third Branch of the Celtic myth cycle the Mabinogion with his usual wit, imaginative intelligence and love of language.
