Trouble always seems to find Joe. All right, sometimes he’s sort of looking for it. Joe lives with his girlfriend Eva, a twenty-something couple, one of whom is trying to get pregnant. Eva works for a local Rhode Island modern artist named Madeline. Madeline is very wealthy -and very wacky. Eva works at Madeline’s home-cum-studio, a 100+ room estate called Rockhurst Manor built by her great-great grandfather. Joe Elliot is an aspiring novelist who’s latest effort is a fictional tale of technological marvel: a system of computers, satellites and machines that scans the entire planet. It’s called ‘W.E.B.’ The‘Worldwide Electron Band’ and it tells the operator everything about anything or anyone. The ultimate ‘Big Brother’ machine that the government is creating. Madeline reads the manuscript and decides she wants to build a system herself, as: “the greatest piece of modern art ever created.”
On the other side of the Manor, and unbeknownst to Eva, lives Madeline’s Uncle Bertrom. Bertrom becomes suspicious of the goings on and hires a private security firm to spy on Madeline. This creates an electronic glitch in Madeline’s 'art piece' and possibly a new form of Artificial Intelligence which draws the interest of several possibly nefarious individuals and the government. Meanwhile, Joe figures out how to climb inside the walls of the two-hundred year old estate to fool around, and finds Al Capone’s brain in a jar in the process. And, in an unrelated incident Eva finally gets pregnant.

Joe and Eva Elliot, with newborn son Max in tow, head off on a cruise ship to Turks & Caicos to deliver a piece for Eva’s boss, Madeline, a very wealthy, wacky modern artist. Madeline meets up with them and they are caught in a hurricane and forced to stay at Madeline’s cousin’s twenty bedroom beach house for a few days. An antique skeleton doll that Joe picked up in Miami is making the locals think that an ominous fate is about to befall the islands when the storm hits and Joe and Eva are right in the middle of the mystery.
