Backhand (#2): Mike Stewart is a bad boy. Sleeping around. Boozing. Fighting with teammates. Name a bad behavior and he’s done it—done it so well, in fact, that he almost tanked his career as a starting defensemen for the NHL’s San Francisco Gold. But Mike is done with all that. He’s starting with a fresh foot forward and putting his past behind him.

That is, until his past quite literally reappears before his eyes. Sara Jetty is just as beautiful as she was a decade before, but Mike hasn’t seen her since she left for her first Olympics and scored a gold medal in women’s figure skating. Now something has put shadows in her eyes, a familiar type of hurt he is all too well versed in. This Sara wants nothing to do with him. Their easy friendship is gone and in its place is a hardened woman who’s nothing like the girl from his past. Still, Mike hasn’t become a top defensemen in the NHL by being afraid of hard work, and he isn’t about to let Sara push him away. Come hell or high water, he’s going to crack her tough outer shell and find the sweet, innocent woman he’s lusted after and loved, in equal measure, for more than ten years.

Benched (#4): Max Montgomery was at the height of his career, playing the best hockey of his life, and lucky enough to have a starting spot on a team that was actually a contender for the Cup. And one by one his friends were falling in love. Love. Now that was a dirty four-letter word if he’d ever heard one.

Max had experienced love and all of its aftereffects and where had that gotten him? Lonely, living in an apartment, and paying alimony to a woman who’d left him at the merest sign of a hiccup in their marriage. His only bright spot was his son. Brayden had moved back in with him a few months ago, after his mother had taken off to God knew where. Max loved having him home, but with his son only seven and him on the road for forty-two games a year, they’d struggled. Still, they’d found a way to make it work.

But then Brayden threw Max a completely new curve ball. He wanted Max to find a wife.
Max had been there, done that, got the crappy T-shirt as a souvenir. No way would he make himself vulnerable like that again, no matter how much his son wanted it. A puppy was a perfectly viable alternative, right? At least that was what he’d been thinking until he met Angelica Shallows, sister to the team’s Physical Therapist guru, Mandy, and a brilliant engineer in her own right. She was gorgeous, smart, but had shadows in her eyes.

Max knew all about shadows, knew they were meant as a sign for him to stay away. What was that about the best intentions paving the road to hell? Max may have wanted to stay away, may have wanted to abide the warning signs in Angie’s eyes, but— The real trouble began when found that he couldn’t do either of those things.

Breakaway (#5): It was hate at first sight.
Just not for Blue. He’d loved what he’d seen. Tall and thin with long blond hair and gorgeous blue eyes, Anna Hayes was absolutely beautiful.
She also wanted absolutely nothing to do with him.
As a professional hockey player, that was a rare thing for Blue Anderson. He was young, rich, good looking, and in the best shape of his life. He wouldn’t say he had to beat women off with a stick, but . . . maybe he had to brush them off with a broom. Still, bad puns aside, the truth was Blue didn’t have any trouble finding someone—or someones—to share his bed.

Except Anna.
Never beautiful Anna with the razor-sharp wit and seriously dirty mouth.
Despite his appreciation for her model good looks, Blue knew when to stay away. And his plan was to remain far far away from the woman who never failed to roast him within an inch of his life.
He wanted someone nice, not a woman who’d barbecue his balls off.
But then Blue did something stupid—something that felt incredible, but was also incredibly stupid.
He kissed prickly, gorgeous Anna Hayes.
And every one of his carefully laid plans went right out the window.

Breakout (#6): He was too young for her. A decade too young.
Rebecca Stravokraus was the premier publicist in the professional sports. She was extremely smart, capable, and could spin a story like a spider spins its web. She also didn’t lack in confidence.
But there was one thing she couldn’t do.
L.O.V.E.
It was the ultimate dirty word, the one emotion that made men, women, and all variations in between turned into possessed, insane beings.
Humanity was not built to love. They were built to work, to play hockey, to fuc—
Cough. To have a great time between the sheets.
That was enough—it had been enough.
Until Kevin declared that Rebecca was what he wanted, until they spent several glorious nights in bed together . . . until she began to feel.
That couldn’t be. Not now. Not in the future. Not ever.
But Kevin had decided on her and if there was one thing she’d learned about stubborn, alpha hockey players, it was that they didn’t give up.
And Rebecca had to admit that in this case she didn’t want Kevin to give up.

Checked (#7): She was a laughingstock. A hippie. A tree-hugger. A granola, crunchy, millennial who worried about how her food was grown and what she put into her body and GMOs and . . .
Had a secret chocolate addiction.
Because even though she cared about all of those things, a girl had to live too. And Rebecca couldn’t live her life without 90% Cacao Super Dark Chocolate. Addictions aside, it was her job to help keep the players on the San Francisco Gold healthy and she was damned good at it, so her hippie, granola background (and maybe also her PhD in Nutritional Sciences) had come in handy, at least to some degree.

Especially since the team had taken home the league’s top prize last season.
Unfortunately, not everyone thought her contributions were important.
In fact, some people—cough one Dr. Gabe Carter—thought her position with the team was unnecessary. He thought her diet was too restrictive, her meal plan too out there. He’d actually told Rebecca that her program hadn’t been an important factor in the Gold’s successful season.

But dammit, she knew she’d made a difference with the team, knew her work was important, and it didn’t matter that Gabe was gorgeous and a talented doctor, he still didn’t have any right to—
Kiss her.
No.
Kiss her or make her feel small.
Yes, that. The second one. He was a jerk. She didn’t like him or care about his opinions and she definitely wasn’t in love with him. Definitely hadn’t been in love with him the moment she’d laid eyes on him—
Sigh.
She definitely was.
And to make matters worse? Gabe knew.

Coasting (#8): Calle Stevens wasn’t what one would call a risk-taker.
She was steady. She was even. She was . . .
Pregnant.
Oh God. How was she pregnant? Well, she knew the how part, but that wasn’t the point. Mistakes happened, condoms failed, birth control pills didn’t work, and . . . she was pregnant by a man who’d broken up with her via text and then readily offered to sign away his parental rights when she’d told him she was keeping the baby.
Her life was ruined.
She’d just been hired as an assistant coach for the professional hockey team, the San Francisco Gold. She didn’t have any family in the area, didn’t have a partner. How was she going to have a baby?

But then Cooper.
A star player for the team, he’d found out about the baby and had insisted on coming with her to her first appointment, then had held her hair back when she’d spent the majority of her time christening the porcelain goddess before coming to the second, and then the third, and the fourth and—
In fact, as much as she tried to push him away, he refused to keep his distance. And then when she was having a particularly weak moment, feeling fat and gross and completely unappealing, he held her like she was precious and . . . he kissed her.
Then didn’t stop.
Calle didn’t know what was scarier, the kiss or that she didn’t want him to stop either.

Centered (#9): Liam Williamson was a legend in the NHL.
Or rather . . . his family was legend.
He was the least talented of his family of hockey players—with his father and two older brothers seriously outplaying, outscoring, and out-succeeding Liam’s limited achievements. He’d been traded to four teams in as many years and it was widely accepted that his career was nearly at an end.

Now he was with the San Francisco Gold, barely on the lineup and just waiting for notice that he’d been scratched from every game. His trade to another—and probably final—team was imminent.

That was that. He was embracing the fact that his playing days were over—
Then he met Mia. She was funny and sweet and the most beautiful woman he’d ever laid eyes on. Unsurprisingly, Liam had fallen and fallen fast.
But he was about to be traded and Mia lived in San Francisco. Her life was there . . .
And how in the hell was he going to leave the woman he loved?

Charging (#10): Once upon a time she’d been an intern.
Once upon a time he’d been a rookie.
Then he’d broken her heart. Well, not just broken it. He’d torn it to shreds. Shattered it. Freaking nuked it.
But now Charlotte was older. Leaner. Meaner. Okay, so the last wasn’t really true, but she’d certainly spent the eight years since her fling with one Logan Walker—star defenseman and that former rookie—building fortified walls around her heart at the same rate she built her career.
She was great at building. Great at winning. So much so that she’d become the new GM for the Gold—a GM who was quite possibly going insane because she’d decided to bring Logan to the team. Her heart aside, the team needed his skills to win, needed him to plug a hole in the roster.
What she didn’t need?
Logan deciding that the hole he wanted to plug was the one he’d created in her heart all those years before.

Caged (#11): God, she was so painfully, awkwardly shy.
Blurting out the wrong thing at the wrong time? Check.
Puking in front of the class when she’d needed to give a speech? Double check.
Critically, embarrassingly unable to summon any semblance of a rational thought when in the presence of an attractive man? Triple check.
And she was surrounded by gorgeous, sexy men on a daily basis.
As video coach for the San Francisco Gold hockey franchise, Dani spent her days wrapped in a technological bubble. She studied tape, prepared clips for the players, and generally avoided other people.
Until Ethan.
She’d thought he was going to ask her to fix his computer.
Instead, he’d asked her out.
On a date. A date! That didn’t compute. It couldn’t be right. No one asked her out—
Ethan had.
And suddenly, Dani thought it might be possible to leave her shy, awkward days behind her.

Cycled (#13): No matter how hard Scarlett tried to be good, she always ended up being bad.But everything was different now. She was making her way up the ranks in her dream job, working as a publicist for the San Francisco Gold. Finally, her life was back on track. Then she met Kaydon. He was new to the team—a power forward—and the moment she laid eyes on his sexy-as-sin body she’d dreamed about what that power might feel like in bed. But he was off-limits. She worked for the team, and though she’d spent much of her life being bad, she couldn’t risk her job by jumping into a relationship that could easily get her fired.Even if it was with a man like Kaydon.Unfortunately, despite her best intentions at keeping her distance, he was good—very good—at convincing her to be bad.

Caught (#15): It had been love at first sight…or at least love at first sight of a toppling, glittering, unfortunately-shaped mascot.
Semantics.
Charlie had been spending time in San Francisco with his sister—who was a publicist for the San Francisco Gold hockey team. And by spending time with her, he meant he was licking his wounds and trying to pretend that he hadn’t just had his heart broken.
But it was really hard to pretend he was fine when he was surrounded by happy couples.
He didn’t know what the hell was in the water, but the freaking Gold seemed to breed happy endings like some people bred…horses? Hot house roses? A never-ending supply of hard seltzers in his fridge?
Whatever. The point was that he’d been alone and heartbroken…
Until that giant, glittering gold mascot had toppled over, its head falling off to reveal the woman within.
To reveal Kacee.

17. Covered: She’s his best friend’s sister.
He’s going to keep her anyway.
Getting caught in bed with his friend’s sister wasn’t the welcome Ben had planned when joining the roster of the San Francisco Gold.
Neither was the black eye he sported for several weeks afterward.
Jordyn was a newly divorced, single mom of two boys, and not looking for love, but Ben wasn’t easily scared off.
Not when her brother threatened dismemberment.
Nor when Jordyn told him she was swearing off men and relationships forever.
Because she was his forever…
And he’d fight tooth and nail to keep her.

18. Crushed: She was everything he shouldn’t want.
He was going to take her anyway.
Once Lily had fit the role of an annoying little sister.
But then she’d gone and grown up—become all woman and one he shouldn’t want.
She was off-limits, or should be, anyway. She worked for the San Francisco Gold, worked for the same team he played for. But that wasn’t the only reason she was off-limits.
Lily was the daughter of the man who had been more of a father than his own.
So Will couldn’t have her, couldn’t risk taking her.
Except…his body and heart weren’t listening to reason.
Because Lily had become the woman he wanted more than anything else.
