Machina series by Aleks Canard (#1-2,4)

Overview: Aleks Canard is a law school dropout, failed actor, and part time waiter. He spends every day writing novels as he reckons it’s the only thing at which he’s half-decent. All that’s stopping him from being a total cliché is that he can’t stand writing in coffee shops, he prefers beer to whiskey, and he looks like someone who’s more likely to work at a carnival sideshow than in any literary profession.

Machinas were made to be the galaxy’s greatest super soldiers. Split into four academies, each with their own deadly abilities, machinas were thought to be machines sent from the gods. Enhanced human beings who blurred the lines between synthetic and biological lifeforms.
Upon the destruction of their home planet, Mair Ultima, machinas became disgraced. Scattered among the stars. Now they work as bounty hunters, assassins, bodyguards. Anything that involves spilling blood. Only thousands remain, the most famous of whom is Beatrix Westwood, a Valkyrie Huntress, though she prefers Trix of Zilvia.

Trix attempts to rescue a kidnapped princess while evading warlords, slavers, and warring royal families with the help of her oldest friend, Yvach Aodun. On that note, welcome to the Milky Way in Earth year 2799. It's like the Wild West and piracy's golden age rolled into one lawless expanse. Trix is feeling lucky. How about you?
2. Of Exiles and Pirates
Trix hunts one of the deadliest monsters she's ever encountered before becoming entangled in a game between two rival gangs with the help of old friends from Oni Academy. Thieves, pirates, and exiles abound. Vengeance bloodies the star ocean. And mysterious doomsday predictions made by Garth Roche overshadow all. Good thing Trix has plenty of ammo.
4. Only Gods Forgive
Join Trix as she undertakes a contract in Thyria's Red Light District for a mysterious club owner. Though unfortunately for the Valkyrie, well, you'll just have to wait and see.
