Idella Breck is in trouble. More trouble than she’s ever been in before. Ektorus Boon has her locked up, and she knows he’ll get the information he wants from her before long. And then, he’ll kill her.
Luckily, though, she’s not in captivity alone. She has Rurhol Heavyfinger for company, and he’s one of Stillwater’s best Fixers. And if ever there was a situation that called for some urgent Fixing, this is definitely it.
Vaida Nassera is also in trouble. Nothing she can’t handle, of course, but just enough to slow her down. She didn’t sign up to be tortured, though, so someone’s going to have to pay for that. That someone is Rikur Jannath, who crossed the line when he started ripping off her fingernails.
But Vaida’s a patient woman. Jannath's time will come. For now, the mission comes first. And when it’s over, then she’ll deal with the sadistic little Watchman.
Unless Givrok Ironshoulder gets to him first, that is. Jannath is the only mission he’s ever failed, and now he’s failed it twice. To say that Givrok is out for blood would be an understatement, because now Jannath has been to Earth, and knows the locations of two of the portals. If he manages to pass this information on to Ektorus Boon, there’s going to be two worlds’ worth of trouble heading Givrok’s way.
But Givrok won’t fail a third time. Especially not now he has Stillwater’s finest Catchers – Lukwaro and Caspillo – breathing down his neck. He may be injured, but it’s not going to stop him. He’s got a Watchman to kill, a friend to rescue, and one hell of a point to prove.
