When Mac showed up in Cairns ten years ago, he had intended to leave his old life entirely behind. It’s a matter of freedom or imprisonment, after all. One does not just escape from a five-year gaol sentence for manslaughter and expect to be able go back. Mac accepted this reality long ago. He has covered his tracks carefully, avoided everyone and left no trail for anyone of authority to follow. Then those bloody idiots had to go and mug him, knocking him out and forcing him to stay at hospital for a fortnight. Now, his picture’s out there, the police are on his tail, and a monster he never knew existed is hunting him…and it’s only a matter of time before real evil catches up to him.
Mac has been hiding for almost a decade: from the police, from people, from the truth. Now, he has nowhere to hide. At least, not alone. Only with the help of some friends old and new will Mac be able to survive. Not just survive, in fact, but solve a series of murders that have eluded the police for more than a year.
The people of Cairns will not exonerate Dave “Mac” Brannigan—they will liberate him.
