I can download azw, mobi, epub from my local library and strip out the DRM using Calibre pretty easily.

More and more, however, books are offered only with the "read in browser" option – making them available to read in the browser's kindle app but not letting you download a single self-contained file. Does anyone know how to make these file(s) – which are probably being cached invisibly by the browser – portable? That is, can you make them whole/visible, remove DRM, etc., or are we just out of luck with those?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I'm also curious about this. Magazines and some books looks like they may be saved in PDF which is hidden.

Haven't encountered this myself. Have you tried searching temp files and user directories *while the file is open* and then copy/paste the open file?

I've seen this too with B&N books. I'd love to find a way to keep a backup copy of each purchased book on my hard drive. Just in case they decide to yank it for some reason.
