Hi, newbie here!I've been doing a lot of YA reading lately, focusing mainly on YA books that have to do with mental issues. But I realize that these books have mostly female characters. So...I was wondering if there are any novels that you know of with gay male characters who are being institutionalized/ suffer from mood disorders / have mental problems - anything with depression, cutting, anorexia, bipolar disorders etc. only, you know, with (preferably gay) male protagonists?

i know i'm probably asking too much but thanks anyway!

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz- I don't think it's explicitly stated, but it's pretty obvious that Ari has some mental issues that are very present throughout the story

You could also try asking this question in the MM/LGBT Room ... we have quite a lot of teenage angst in there lol

A lot of our members read Young Adult

You can check The Foxhole Court by Nora Sakavic, one of the MCs has serious mental health issues and has been institutionalized.
Benjamin Alire Sáenz books, In Perfect Light and Aristotle and Dante Discover The Secrets of the Universe.
And of course the classic The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky.
Those are the ones I can think of. But I'll add something if I remember new books
