Afterlight is the perfect image editing app for quick and straight forward editing. It is certainly one of my preferred apps because of its powerful features and simplicity in use. The world really becomes a better place if we see it through the wide scope of Afterlight's filters. You can choose to adjust your image using 15 adjustment tools, which can help give your image better clarity, brightness, contrast and saturation. You can play with the exposure settings, give more highlights, reduce or increase the shadow and adjust the colors or the warmth to allow for a nice range of effects. These adjustment features alone are enough to give life and transform your image, but Afterlight offers much more than that. There are a total of 59 filters available with this version at your disposal. If the adjustment tools transformed your images, wait until you try out the filters. Simply lovable! You can also apply more than one filter on a single image, resulting in a completely different effect than the basic presets offered; you don't have to stop at those 59 filters, as combinations will offer you much more.

This app also offers 66 textures on a range of real and natural light leaks that can be created with 35mm film and instant film, to simplistic scratchy film textures, along with the cropping and transformation tools to concentrate on specific points of interest within the composition. The cropping feature has various dimensions, from the free form tool to a number of preset dimensions, while the transformation tool is basically a rotation tool that allows you to rotate the image and also flip it either vertically or horizontally, straighten the image or overlay two images. To give your final composition a personalized and polished look, Afterlight also offers a number of frames, 77 in total, using the preferred Instagram dimension making it easy for Instagram users to post their photos straight from their devices.

The app gives you two possibilities to upload the images; either you can snap an image or manipulate images from local storage on your device. Once you've loaded the image, you can start playing with the features that the app offers, which are quite numerous and complete. In the first tab you can select the basic features. Once you've clicked on a feature, a second tab will appear so that you can start to adjust your image. Once you've ended up with the image you want, you can save your image, not only in your local gallery, but also you can share it directly via email, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and others, as well. You also have the ability to choose an image resolution for your final manipulated export with preset ranges varying between small, medium and maximum sizes, which accommodate the social networking sharing aspect nicely.

All different types of users ranging from amateur to semi-profressional will benefit from Afterlight with its wide range of adjustments and filters within one very easy to use suite of compact tools. With convenient exporting features and rescaling options, social networking is a breeze for those on the go without having to use a desktop computer to finish photos with satisfactory results. I highly recommend Afterlight for all users interested in photography as it presents all the options one could possibly need in a mobile app for a decent price point that is affordable for all.

Pros:
  • Simple, clean and stylish user interface.
  • Wide range of filters and adjustment tools.
  • Easy to use and to navigate between features.

Cons:
  • Infrequent updates for the Android version compared to iOS.
  • Lacks the ability to save the image at the original resolution.
