If you use the correct mods you wont be banned, the ones from here are safe so far.

Since Spotify doesn`t offerer any kind of changelog I`ll just ask here: do you guys think there`s good incentive to keep the app updated? I`ve been using the same version for months without any issues, but am I missing good stuff or just minor things? Thanks.

All in all it's really up to you if you want to keep it updated. If the version you are using is working fine and you are happy with it then stick with what works. The newer versions work as well and there really isn't much that changes with the updates (mainly performance optimizations, slight UI changes, and minor features that don't really make a mind blowing difference). So bottom line, if you are happy with what you got then hold out until it doesn't work anymore or an update with features you want comes out. The great thing about Android is you can always try out the latest version of an app, and if you don't like it and have a backup of a previous version, you can uninstall it (if not rooted) and downgrade the app. Also as far as finding out what has changed, many times Mr. Dude, Balatan, or the good people of the forum will leave comments on what is different so it's a good practice to read them from time to time if you're curious (just a friendly helpful tip).
