Yes aleenna, I am a Chimney Sweep
Congratulations
from Wikipedia
A chimney sweep is a worker who clears ash and soot from chimneys. The chimney uses the pressure difference caused by a hot column of gas to create a draught and draw air over the hot coals or wood enabling continued combustion. Chimneys may be straight or contain many changes of direction. During normal operation, a layer of creosote builds up on the inside of the chimney, restricting the flow. The creosote can also catch fire, setting the chimney and the building alight. The chimney must be swept to remove the soot. This was done by the master sweep.
These days, there are fewer domestic chimneys needing sweeping, due to various clean air regulations and the efficiency of modern gas and electric heating, but the job is still needed. The traditional brushes are still used along with various vacuum devices to make the job cleaner and easier.
Morality
The job itself is perfectly fine. Unfortunately it gained a bad reputation over the use and treatment of Climbing Boys. An extremely dangerous job done by very small and usually neglected children. But this was outlawed and more mechanical methods developed.
Animals
A fair number of calls any chimney sweep gets are from people who have birds or animals stuck in their chimneys. But there is one sweep who takes his dog to work with him. It stands outside the house and barks when it sees the brushes poke out of the chimney pot.
