World Cup: SBS to air all games for next 48 hours after Optus streaming issues

Optus has announced that all World Cup games will be simulcast on free-to-air SBS for the next 48 hours, after a wave of complaints about its subscription streaming service.

Optus Sport holds the exclusive rights for most World Cup matches but has struggled to broadcast games on its website and mobile applications.

Many Optus Sport subscribers have been unable to watch live games amid connection issues, dropouts and other faults during the tournament's opening days.

Optus chief executive Allen Lew said the telco would use the two days of simulcasting to come up with a "robust solution".

"We have a dedicated team that have been working around the clock to attend to the technical issues," he said.

"The demand is no reason for us to make the mistakes that we did over the weekend so I apologise for that."

"Optus and SBS have agreed that SBS can televise all FIFA World Cup games for the next 48 hours, giving all Australians the chance to enjoy the tournament," SBS said in a tweet.

Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal charged with changing condition of ball in Test against West Indies

The International Cricket Council has charged Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal with changing the condition of the ball during the second Test against West Indies.

The ICC said officials charged Chandimal after "television footage from the final session's play on Friday (local time) appeared to show the Sri Lanka captain taking sweets out from his left pocket and putting these in his mouth, before applying the artificial substance to the ball which the umpires viewed as an attempt to change its condition".

They announced the decision via Twitter on Sunday, and later said Chandimal had pleaded not guilty.

Match referee Javagal Srinath of India "will hold a hearing following the conclusion" of the ongoing Test, the ICC said.

Sri Lanka had resumed play on day three on Saturday under protest after delaying the start and strongly denied it tampered with the ball in Saint Lucia.

Ben Stokes & Chris Woakes: England Cricket all-rounders set to miss Australia ODIs

ngland all-rounders Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes are set to miss the remaining three one-dayers in the five-match series against Australia.

Stokes tore his left hamstring before the second Test against Pakistan and will be with the squad for the fourth and fifth ODIs but is unlikely to play.

The hope is he will face India in a Twenty20 series starting on 3 July.

Woakes has a right quad tear and will be out until at least the ODIs against India, which start on 12 July.

The Warwickshire player was injured during the second Test against Pakistan earlier this month, and the problem is related to a chronic right knee issue, for which he has had an injection.

Durham's Stokes can bat fully and run at 90% capacity. He will start bowling again this week.

England are 2-0 up in the five-match series against Australia before they play the tourists in a T20 match.

They will then host India for three T20s, three ODIs and a five-match Test series.
