GAME ONE
Montreal Canadiens at Columbus Blue Jackets
Carey Price and the Canadiens made sure the cannon at Nationwide Arena was relatively quiet night Friday as they defeated the Blue Jackets 4-1 before a sellout crowd. Joel Armia’s two empty-netters sealed the deal. A puck eluded Carey Price in the crease and Oliver Bjorkstrad buried it, making it a 2-1 game five minutes into the third. Montreal played tighter defence in the third period as they limited Columbus to nine shots on goal. After Bjorkstrand’s goal, Price kept the Canadiens on top when he stopped Ryan Murray on a breakaway midway through the period. Joel Armia sealed the win with two goals, including one into the empty net.
GAME TWO
New York Islanders at Washington Capitals
Josh Bailey and Cal Clutterbuck scored third-period goals, Thomas Greiss made 19 saves for the shutout and the New York Islanders moved into first place in the Metropolitan Division by beating the Capitals 2-0 Friday night in Barry Trotz's return to Washington. Trotz's Islanders have won four in a row and 14 of their past 17 games to leapfrog the team he coached to the Stanley Cup last year. They held Washington under 20 shots and improved to 7-0-0 in the second half of back-to-back sets this season.
