I'm here during the North American day! There's probably no prize for that, but I win anyway!

We have the last little bit of the snow we got just melting off today. We usually get about one, maybe two instances of snow every year and hardly ever does it keep people "shut in". We rarely get more than 3-4 inches at a time in my area, and I actually enjoy it when it comes around. Something about snow seems to make everything quiet . I also like to hear snow falling. My husband says I'm odd, but I think you can actually "hear" it coming down.

Since it was the first snow, I didn't make any snow cream, but I will next time. Anyone else make it?

Snow cream... now that's something I haven't heard in many many years. Our neighbor used to make it when I was a kid.

Where are you at? I will assume you are farther south since you rarely get more than 3 - 4 inches at a time.

Charlotte, NC. The state says North, but we are definitely part of the South

We have tons of lovely southern sayings, crazy food people in other states have never heard of (livermush anyone?)

My great grandparents were tobacco farmers. I can remember being out there when I was growing up in the drying sheds pretending I was a princess and all the huge drying leaves of tobacco were my lovely princess dresses hanging up. I just had to choose on to wear to the ball. The picture below shows the tobacco when it's drier, but when it first hangs, it's much longer. Ahhhh, the good ol' days when life was easy and my only job was playing princess.

Snow cream is basically Ice Cream using snow as the base ingredient. Snow is mixed with sugar, vanilla and milk. You can add additional flavoring.

However, don't use yellow snow

Yep, that's snow cream. Also, you never use the first snow of the year.

This could be one of those old wives tales, but my mother always said the first snow wasn't clean. So, you wait until the 2nd snow and after it's been coming down for a few minutes, you take your biggest bowl outside and wait for it to fill up with snow. Then you bring it in and mix the ingredients up and dig in. It's not like it's earth-shatteringly delicious but it's one of those things we waited all year for so it sure seems like a treat. You can also add some condensed milk in yours, depending on how sweet you like it.

kathlyn, I have found that when dealing with "some" men, they'll take any chance necessary to write their name in the snow. Saw one try it once with no hands once.

*shrugs* I couldn't read his writing.

Good morning, matina, Katy and Alessa! Just back from a trip to Govett's Leap, with Roger and another friend. It's going to be warm up here today, at least 33 degrees (92 F) . . . so I'll leave my mowing until early evening.

Inpurisnatura, always great to see some local photos! Thank you.

John, you would have enjoyed this morning's warm and sunny views out over the wilderness . . . no snow in sight!

matina, hope your appointment goes well. Hope I'm finished with mine for a couple of weeks or more.

Katy, you're facing some hot weather until Monday . . . I hear it will be 40 in Penrith this afternoon.

And good night to br bear and Ice!
