Star, the above picture shows where my brother was working yesterday, not far from his house. Snow mostly gone except in the woods, in the shade. I spent more than two weeks around here, back in July, their summer . . .

Katy, up to 17 degrees right now after an overnight low of 11. Am counting the days until my grandchildren arrive . . . still two weeks to go. Beautiful day up here . . . have to go back to the optometrist in Katoomba at 3 pm.

matina, sent you an e-mail. Wish you could find a way to get the medication you want.

John, there's a Krispy Kreme down in Penrith, at the foot of the mountains, and I've sometimes stopped there for coffee because they have free wifi.

Star, I always kind of like 'Murdoch' . . . and of course our Toronto friends will know where all the action took place 120 years ago! I've got rather tired of the implausibility of the various offshoots of the Agatha Christie stories, but still watch 'Midsomer Murders' or 'Lewis' or 'Father Brown' from time to time. Latter is, of course, based on the famous G. K. Chesterton novels. The new British shows, like 'Shetland' and 'River' and 'Broadchurch' are rather dark and depressing, though very well done. 'Sherlock' is hard to beat and 'Vera' is kind of fun. 'Endeavour' is a 'Inspector Morse' prequel, taking place while Lewis was a boy! I can't help but find 'Miss Fisher' and 'Death in Paradise' kind annoying. I don't know why.



matina and Katy, am off soon, on a beautiful afternoon, for a routine checkup at the Katoomba optometrist.

Watched a fire engine pull in across Katoomba Street, but it didn't seem that there was a fire.

Absolutely beautiful autumn day up here . . . colours everywhere . . . and a very nice sunset going on right now.

PJ, how did the optometrist go? I'm glad there wasn't a fire, and I hope that no one was seriously hurt for the fire engines to be called out.

Star, you replied to 'The Call' perfectly! My appointment went OK. I've decided to put off my cataracts operations for another 6-12 months and wanted a cheap ($39) pair of distance eyeglasses to improve my distance vision (for driving) in the meantime.

matina and Katy, wish I could share this lovely autumn weather with you! Picture above doesn't really do justice to this afternoon's sunset, as seen from the end of my street.
