Katy, I finished most of the front, starting at about 5:45 but have stopped with not much more to do. Was feeling very dehydrated and light-headed, so will finish up tomorrow when I sweep and wash the driveway and front veranda. Was a bit hotter than I expected and I guess I just didn't drink enough earlier in the day. Making up for that now with a Gatorade.

matina, wonder if you're getting as much heat as we are in Sydney. (EDIT: Just saw your post.) Was supposed to be 40 in Penrith this afternoon. 'Only' 28 here now after a top of about 32, but the front part of my house is right in the sun with very little shade. AC going now and both Rishi and Cosmo are sitting with me on the couch.

John, haven't checked up on the local tennis, which is currently the big sporting news in Sydney right now. That's one sport I hardly ever played back in the day.

Inpurisnatura, thanks for the mountain lion picture. My brother (in eastern Maine) has both lynx and bobcats behind his house, but there are not supposed to be (not supposed to be) mountain lions in Maine. However, my brother is quite a woodsman and he always says that any wild cats are very stealthy and hard to spot. (My kitten Rishi is a bit like this, except when she begs for treats.) The quolls in Australia are the same, and very rare.

Pj... I played some tennis in my youth (if that's what you can call how bad I played)
Interest in the Open has declined here as the Americans fall by the way side.

matina... from the sound of things, you need MORE!

matina, your poor feet! Had my nap earlier today and am now recovering from my mowing attempt. I don't think I'd go outdoors if it got over 40 up here. It's just too much.

Katy, 39 would also be too much for me. Fuzzies are mainly staying downstairs where it's nice and cool . . .

Just listened to a program that claims 90% of all the world's glaciers are increasing, and that the worldwide climate cycles are pointing to another ice age in a few more years . . . hmmmm.

Good Morning our side of the world!

I saw this and just HAD to post it.

Snow Porn taken to the next level...

A man in Canada and local police had a good laugh after the Montreal resident fooled officers with a full-size car made entirely of snow. According to CBS affiliate WGCL-TV, Simon Laprise sculpted a life-size model of a DeLorean DMC-12 in the middle of a local snow removal zone.

The "car," made famous by the "Back to the Future" movie franchise, drew the attention of one police officer who was so fooled by Laprise's snow work he called for a second patrol car to check out the DeLorean.

CBS Los Angeles writes that after the officers realized there was no car under the snow pile, Laprise was given a fake parking ticket that read, "You made our night hahahahaha :)"

The 33-year-old machinist's prank was reportedly plowed clean by Montreal sanitation workers the next day but not before it gave police a funny story to tell this winter.

You just have to love those crazy Canadians

Good morning matina and Katy and Alessa . . . a bright and sunny morning up here in the mountains, already up to 30 degrees, which is hot for this area. Last night I took my walk in very pleasant 18 degree temps and felt like I was back to normal.

I can't remember if I posted pictures of my 10-12 pomegranate flowers. I'm now hoping that I'll really grow some pomegranates this year. I planted the bush nearly five years ago.

John, this is the time of summer sports around here, and Australia is an extremely sports-conscious country . . . cricket and tennis now, and of course surfing. The various codes of football at other times of the year, and soccer has become very popular too. Baseball is played at maybe an A level but not as a professional league. Of yes, all kinds of swimming are popular and also cycling, running, etc. Both field and ice hockey are fairly popular too, but ice hockey isn't at the same level as North America. The list could go on and on . . .

matina, glad your water pipe is fixed. This is no time of year to be without water!

Katy, I'm going to finish up my outdoor work later today, after 6 pm or so. Hope you can stay in front of the AC today.

Image

Just checked online is this is what my pomegranates are supposed to look like! Fingers crossed . . .

br bear and Ice, I sent pictures of the Montreal snow car prank to my brother. Don't know if he would appreciate that being done in one of his car parks at 3 am and -25 degrees . . .

Jan 20th, 2018, 4:23 am
pj, do you have just the one bush or more than one? Most poms are self-fruiting but it really does increase the output if you have another one nearby to cross-pollinate. I know they take at least 3 years before they produce fruit, so I'm sure you're time is coming. I'd love to have one but it's not really warm enough here consistently to really have one.

We had an apple tree that didn't fruit for much longer than we thought it would take. I was super concerned that it was a "dud" or something, but the first year it fruited, it was so heavy the branches were literally sagging. I thought it would break the limbs. It produced like mad for the first 4 years then went to a normal production rate. Maybe your poms are going to go mad this year making up for the lost time!

I'm so glad someone has the warm weather right now that I'm missing. It's been in the 30s here (F) and I've been freezing my tookus off. My favorite season is fall in my area. We have the changing of the leaves and people literally flock from all over the United States to see the colors and the foliage here. It makes for some horrible traffic, but the scenery while you wait is lovely.

Hello to everyone else!
