      Review by Francesca Goldsmith:
The first chapters of this French graphic novel, a postnuclear sf saga, introduce personality-rich key characters playing out a struggle between good and evil revolving around high-tech, golemlike creatures. Beautiful Navee, a human girl who has had a lush Earth to herself, is discovered by a space probe from a world dominated by a mind-controlling entity. The ensuing standoff between her human reason and the rigid mindset of the invading "army" is nuanced and moving, with the story concluded by the proverbial cliffhanger to be resolved in the next installment. The publisher's typically color-drenched reproductions are particularly appropriate for Navee's jungle home. Buchet's artwork is lively, comical, and sinister by turns, lending dimension to Morvan's characterizations and narrative flow. There is one big flaw in the package: illustrations of Navee have been adulterated with small black "censor bars" across her pubescent chest, which, unfortunately, draw the eye from the real action. This book will appeal to both girls and boys, whether they are sf fans or not. To reach the boys, however, booktalking may be needed.

This is not true. (Actually the bars are white)(at least, in MY download) The "censor bars" are no such thing. They are part of her mysterious past history which has not yet been fully explained.

There is one story in the collection where the "bars" seem to soak up discharged electrical energy, but, as yet, there has been no explanation of what they are and/or what they do.

There are many things about her past which haven't been explained (yet?) and this is just one of them.

Dear Bohica, here what I found:

    Image
Navee in the censored American version compared to the original art.

FYI: For American readers, NBM had has published and released Wake/Sillage in black censor bars, and what you've read was Delcourt (or in French or scanlation version).
And for myself, it's not white but close to silver or metalic..

    Yes you are right.
Spoiler alert on: Check Wake 10 - Return of Flames, page 42-44, after Navis fight with "monster energy", the bars flash and...

Ah, ok. That explains it then. What I got (with the download links above) is the pics on the right, with the English from the pics on the left. I was just trying to say/explain that THIS download did NOT have the black bars.

And for myself, it's not white but close to silver or metalic..

That's probably what it is meant to be. It just looks white to me.

I do hope this isn't the end of this series! After reading both the series (Navis & Wake), I have to admit that I want to see how it turns out.

    Sillage
